💫 Apraxia of speech 💫 A neurologically-based communication disorder that impairs an individual’s ability to consistently motor plan production of speech. My friends who come to Tell Me are in the best of hands as I have extensive training including PROMPT and over 20 years of experience in helping improve production of speech. That being said, I am the 🍀lucky🍀 one. To overcome the effects of apraxia is the extraordinary. Imagine coming to work on the thing that is the most difficult for you over and over again-knowing what is going to be expected, knowing the frustration you will experience, but also knowing that I am going to hold you to the highest expectation because I believe in you. 🍽️ Feeding rigidity…. When one restricts their diet to only the familiar and is reticent to try new things 🍽️ Seeing this conversation with my sweet mama from when we traveled to Munich reminded me what a picky eater I was growing up (and probably still am 😑 shhhhhh-don’t tell my friends at Tell Me that I am an absolute hypocrite). Working with dysphagia or swallowing disorders looks different with each individual I treat. But there is one commonality that promotes success to overcome sensory processing issues, behavioral components, and oral motor dysfunction, TRUST. The humans entrusted in my care learn to trust that I am there to help. And that we are a team of equals. And, I won’t make them eat weird sausages (like in Germany 🇩🇪).

🌞 This ♥️ Was 💦 The 💥 Best 🧠 Day 👩🏼‍🤝‍👨🏻 In May, I asked my friends what they wanted to do this summer. Emerson said “get a tan”, Mason said “Go to Holiday World… with you.” At that time, I could not walk. Literally. But these very determined, amazing individuals planned this entire adventure to Holiday World while Mr. Chuck Bradley supported this plan. I am forever grateful to have spent the day with my besties and to see them absolutely BLOSSOM and GROW! From going on rides that they had avoided to staying on those rides after it ended because they were having the best conversations…. And, also, getting Todd Hammond on a roller coaster for the first time in 14 years?!?! Heart full. Mind blown.
