October vibes in the yard. There is still a lot of color in the yard, even though the temperatures are cooling. I love these early autumn blooms, almost as much as the pollinators do. Hard to believe we could have our first frost in a few weeks. 🐝 πŸ’š

Sunrise in the east… the black gum tree is one of the first to change colors in late summer. Its leaves begin to turn red, deep red, in July. This is my Sunrise these days. A gorgeous, backlit, treescape. I like to sun-gaze through the leaves every morning. 🌞Very cool. πŸ’š

Jerusalem artichoke in bloom! They are a sunflower. They grow by rhizomes under the ground, and are edible, like ginger or turmeric. Known to be a survival food. They spread readily, which is much appreciated. I love their yellow blooms in late summer and early fall. These are at least 7 to 8 feet tall. Quite striking even from a distance. πŸ’›

Easing into autumn… small woodland, sunflower, and Maryland Golden asters are just now starting to bloom. Squash is maturing. Brazilian Vervain is also in bloom. A combination of growth and clearing go hand-in-hand this time of year. The weather is perfect for working in the yard. πŸ’šπŸƒ

Chicory!! I sowed tons of seeds and one plant grew. Yay! These gorgeous flowers with that vibrant color are such a treat. They open in the morning and close in the afternoon. I’m hoping for lots of seeds for next year. This is the chicory that is commonly used as a coffee replacement. It would be the root from this plant. I do not intend to dig it up, but rather let it go to seed so we can have more next year! Pretty, right? Pollinators love them. 🐝 πŸ’š πŸƒ
