About 20 years ago, I found myself in , California enchanted by the , and of the Palm Springs Art Museum. The building is a gem, commissioned in 1974 and designed by the legendary architect E. Stewart Williams. Fast forward to yesterday, when I was invited to join the organization as a trustee to help steward the organization's explosive growth as an internationally celebrated arts destination. In this role, I will be integrating programing relating to the healing power of the arts into our local community through programing and serving as a global ambassador of the and its collections to fans of mid century art and design. 4 everyone, everywhere.

Over the last two days, I've had conversations with people in the know about Wendy Williams' as well as with outsiders who've watched the show as spectators. All are united on the question "why would anyone who genuinely cared for her mental health, physical wellbeing and dignity allow the show to be made and aired?"

My answer relates to the fragility inherent in and the predators who feed off of their vulnerability. These dynamics have come out of the shadows and into the light with the popularity of reality television, social media, and cable news- outlets that have become our modern Coliseum where is made by exploiting the weaknesses of vulnerable human beings who've been put on a pedestal.

But unlike the gladiators in pegan days who entered into battles with strength and dignity, today's gladiators are human beings who lack capacity to battle due to a host of mental illnesses, personality and substance use disorders. It's the lowest and most primitive form of human exploitation for personal profit.

is not a spectator sport. It's a human condition that must be treated with respect, dignity and privacy. The question is not Where is Wendy Williams? But rather, why are you watching the show? Join me in boycotting it.
