The truth is - we don’t yet know for sure.

In 2023, the Lipedema Foundation dug into the existing science, reviewing and organizing what’s been published so far about edema in Lipedema.

"Evaluations of the lymphatic structure and function have been equivocating as to whether detectable changes should be considered incidental or intrinsic to the pathogenesis of Lipedema...The preponderance of studies, however, suggests the possibility of an edema phenotype associated with Lipedema either as a primary or secondary effect."
