Life has been quite full lately as I prepare for my upcoming two-week vacation. I’m so excited to travel, explore, and simply enjoy life for a bit. But if I’m honest, I’ve also felt some guilt about stepping away from work—especially knowing how meaningful therapy can be for my clients each week.

As a therapist, it’s easy to worry that time away might make clients feel forgotten or unsupported. But my clients have met me with so much kindness and encouragement. They’ve reminded me that it’s okay to rest, to live life, and to take care of myself too. That support means so much to me.

Sometimes people forget that therapists are human too. We love what we do, but we also need time to breathe, play, and find joy outside of our work. I truly love being a therapist—this is more than a paycheck to me. It’s a privilege to walk beside people on their healing journeys, and I carry that gratitude with me wherever I go.

So this is both a thank you and a gentle reminder:
💜 You deserve to take a break without guilt.
🩵 You deserve to live fully—to laugh, to travel, to simply be.

Everything waiting for you will still be there when you return. You’ll come back more grounded, centered, and ready to keep growing.

Take time for yourself this week, whether it’s five minutes or a full day. Do something that helps you reconnect with who you are. Taking time for yourself isn’t selfish—it’s essential. ✨️

I originally shared this on my personal page, but wanted to post it here too — because stories like this help people better understand disability, boundaries, and respect.

In August, I had a night out at Bally’s in Lake Tahoe ✨️ I’m getting better about using my mobility aids when going out, but it’s still hard. I often feel self-conscious and anxious about how people will perceive me. Thankfully, there was plenty of space, so it wasn’t too difficult to navigate in my wheelchair. I stood up once or twice to dance, but mostly danced in my chair. I always feel a little awkward standing since so many people don’t realize many wheelchair users are ambulatory — but I’m learning to care less and just do what feels right for me.

Surprisingly, there was a married guy there with his wife who seemed obsessed with me. He stared at me and wanted to dance all night. He had been drinking and grabbed my wheelchair handles to push me in a circle and dance with me. 😳 He didn't ask if it was okay until after he started pushing me. (For the record, it’s never okay to touch someone’s mobility aid without consent their prior consent.)

I let it slide and we danced a bit, but he kept complimenting me and making comments about my disability, saying he’d had a crush on a wheelchair user in high school. Meanwhile, he barely paid attention to his wife, who was actually really nice and had danced with me for a bit.

And the wildest part? He told my partner, “If my wife wasn’t here…” — not “If I wasn’t married.” He also said I was too good for him and that he was the luckiest guy in the world… all within about 15 feet of his wife! 😳 Thankfully, he eventually realized he was too drunk and left.

It’s nice and reassuring to know people can still find me attractive while using my wheelchair, but it’s uncomfortable when that attraction turns into objectification or fetishization. If you ever see someone in a wheelchair you’re interested in, just treat them like a person. Talk first. Ask before touching. Respect their space. 🙏🏽

Somewhere right now, a tiny bird is learning its very first song, and a single wildflower is opening for the first time, both completely unaware that they're quietly making the world more beautiful. And here's the best part... You're someone's version of that wildflower, too. 💜 Even if you don't notice it, there's probably a person whose day gets a little warmer just because you exist. ✨️

I know the world can feel heavy—politics are messy, families are hurting, and so many of us are carrying private battles no one else can see. But even in the middle of all this chaos, hope is still alive. A new dawn is already rising. ☀️

Just as the bird sings without certainty and the wildflower blooms without asking permission, you too can rise. You can keep showing up, keep growing, keep bringing light—often in ways you may never fully realize.

Keep going. The world needs the quiet beauty only you can bring. 💙

It’s been a while since I’ve shared about my disability, so here’s a gentle reminder: it remains part of my everyday life.

During a recent trip to Reno, I relied on my wheelchair about 80–90% of the time—stepping out of it mainly when I was in the hotel room. Touring a new city involves a lot of walking. Standing and walking for long periods is one of my biggest physical limitations which is why I use mobility aids.

People’s reactions to my mobility aids can be surprisingly intense. If they first meet me walking and later see me in a wheelchair, they often gasp: “Oh my gosh, what happened? Are you okay?!” If they meet me in my chair and later see me walking, they might exclaim, “I’m so glad you’ve recovered! I was so concerned for you and even prayed for you!”

I understand why people may be confused—it isn’t obvious that someone can both walk and use a wheelchair—and I can’t fault anyone for not knowing. Still, there are gentler ways to respond than with shock or assumptions; a little tact and sensitivity go a long way.

The truth is that many wheelchair users are ambulatory (can walk) short distances. My ability to walk briefly doesn’t mean I’m “cured.” Using my wheelchair allows me to conserve energy and reduce pain so I can participate more fully in the things I love.

Nothing new “happened,” and nothing was “cured.” My disability is permanent and part of who I am. Most days I can be on my feet for a short time; some days I need the support of my wheelchair. This isn’t something to pity or to fix—it’s simply the way my body moves through the world.

My mobility aids aren’t limitations; they’re tools that help me live fully, travel, and experience life in my own way. May we all remember that we rarely know someone’s full story just by looking at them—and may we choose compassion and curiosity over assumptions. 💜
