World Breastfeeding Week 2025 -
How the General Community Can Support Lactating Parents
1. Normalize breastfeeding. Speak positively about it, support public breastfeeding, and avoid shaming language or commentary.
2. Advocate for better policies. Encourage workplaces, healthcare systems, and governments to offer paid leave, safe pumping spaces, and comprehensive lactation support.
3. Make space. In your business, school, or place of worship, offer quiet areas for nursing or pumping, if possible.
4. Educate yourself and others. Learn about the challenges lactating parents face and how to be encouraging rather than judgmental.
5. Offer practical support. Drop off a meal, hold the baby while a parent eats, or help with chores—these small acts make a big difference.
6. Support access to care. Encourage parents to seek lactation help when needed, and advocate for insurance coverage and affordable care.
7. Listen with empathy. Every feeding journey is unique. Whether a parent is exclusively breastfeeding, combo-feeding, pumping, or weaning—kindness and validation go a long way.
