Do you have the heart on your driver's license or ID?

More than 95% of Arizonans currently registered as organ and tissue donors made that generous decision while visiting an Arizona Department of Transportation motor vehicle services office. That's why we're celebrating these partners this month - because they're DRIVEN to save lives! 🚗

Steven says he felt like he was staring death in the face.

His perspective shifted when his second chance was "magnificently coordinated" between Banner Health and the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), pronounced "access".

After a heart failure diagnosis in 2008, Steven Murphy also had permanent atrial fibrillation, a common type of heart arrhythmia characterized by an irregular and often rapid heartbeat.

For Daniel Ramirez Torres, music was life. In fact, that’s how he met his wife—playing the trumpet and drums in a band. After 25 years together, a sudden medical condition took Daniel’s life too soon, but his story didn’t end there.

Every donation story begins with courage: the courage of a family who says yes, and the courage of a community to lift one another up.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we honor the Hispanic and Latino families like Daniel's who have turned loss into hope through organ and tissue donation.

🌟Spotlight on Kate Wagner 🌟

As the Administrative Assistant for Donor Family Engagement, Kate said, "we communicate with families and invite them to events to honor their loved ones. We honor their loved ones every single day. We offer them resources to deal with grief and we let them know that we are here for them for a shoulder to cry on or to guide them."

Kate explains, "aftercare starts even before transplantation takes place. Through conversations with advocates, we learn so much about the families and their dynamics. When we write to them, we really feel a connection."

Thank you for all you do, Kate!

In her role, she leads the planning and ex*****on of DNA's signature events like Donate Life Day at the Arizona Diamondbacks, community campaigns and creative projects like the Recipes of Remembrance cookbook for donor families.

She goes on to say, "I support marketing efforts that help educate the public, engage our partners and honor donor families and recipients through storytelling. My work allows me to be creative while helping inspire others to say yes to donation and support DNA's mission to save and heal lives through organ and tissue donation."

She expresses, "within the scope of my role, I often meet donor families and transplant recipients through marketing campaigns or volunteer events. Hearing their stories firsthand is incredibly moving and always reminds me why the work we do matters so much."

America needs more organ donors. There are more than 106,000 people on the national transplant waiting list, and 13 of them die every day. Hear more from James Markmann, American Society of Transplant Surgeons Council President at https://www.newsweek.com/america-needs-more-organ-donors-opinion-2116478.

Americans should remain confident in the effectiveness and preeminence of the U.S. transplant system. One truth remains unchanged: Every donor has the power to transform multiple lives.

🌟Meet Sara Sears, Organ Referral Liaison for Organ Donor Optimization🌟

Sara personally knows the impact of donation - her father-in-law received a heart transplant that gave him another 15 years with his family. Now, as an ORL, Sara monitors patients that have been referred to DNA for medical suitability and also works with our Donor Legacy team to introduce them to families at the right time. She states, "it's a delicate balancing act, for certain, but I love my job!"

She expressed that something interesting that people may not know about her job is "the amount of flexibility it truly requires. I have to know a little bit about a LOT of things and every shift is so different. You have to be prepared for anything!"
