According to a Gallup survey published in August 2024, 54% of Americans reported drinking alcohol that year. This is notable, given that the rate has only been under 60 percent fewer than ten times since the pollster began surveying in 1939. Young adults are now more likely to perceive alcohol as bad for one’s health. Older adults now drink more than younger ones, and they don't worry about health effects.
This 2022 podcast episode from Stanford professor Andrew Huberman has more than 7.7 million views, and is credited with responsibility for much of the change in Americans' drinking. He answers questions about alcohol's effects on the body, "safe" amounts (there are none), hangovers, genetic propensity and more. If you wondered about it, the answer is probably here. This is GREAT information for you or anyone you know who drinks.
