Meet our newest member of the team! Murphy!

Hi, I’m Murphy 🐾
Service Dog + full-time Chief Happiness Officer
At Empowering You Therapy, I’m here to help you feel grounded, calm, and maybe even smile on the hard days. I don’t talk much, but I do listen really well! I’m also an expert in staying present (and adorable).

Healing doesn’t always start with words.. sometimes it starts with a golden retriever.

How can a dog help during our session?

✨ Reduce anxiety & stress – Petting a dog can lower cortisol and increase serotonin and oxytocin (aka, feel-good hormones).
✨ Provide grounding & comfort – Their calm, steady presence can help people feel more regulated during therapy sessions.
✨ Increase motivation – Dogs encourage routine, movement, and social connection, especially for those struggling with depression.
✨ Offer nonjudgmental support – Dogs don’t interrupt, give advice, or rush your story—they just stay with you, exactly as you are.

That’s why we’re so proud to have Murphy, our certified service dog, on the team at Empowering You Therapy. Sometimes healing starts with a soft nudge and a wagging tail.

Murphy’s owner and handler is Holly Essler, LCSW

Hello and welcome! We’re Empowering You Therapy and we are currently welcoming new clients! 🌿

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, anxious, burned out, stuck in the same cycles, or navigating a major life shift, you’re in the right place.

We’re a team of compassionate, down-to-earth therapists based in Tempe, AZ (virtual in ND and UT), and we help people just like you heal, grow, and reconnect—with themselves, their people, and their purpose.

💬 What we specialize in:
– Anxiety, depression, and trauma
- EMDR
– Relationship issues, communication breakdowns, or simply feeling “off” with your partner (Gottman & EFT-based work)
– Supporting teens, kids (7+), and overwhelmed parents
– Navigating ADHD, life transitions, grief, and stress that just won’t let up
– Therapy for helpers, perfectionists, and high-achievers who “seem fine” on the outside but feel far from it

✨ We believe therapy should be real—not surface-level, sugarcoated, or filled with clichés.
✨ We value evidence-based practices and human connection.
✨ We meet you where you are—whether that’s curled up on a telehealth call or sitting across from us in the office.

If you’re looking for therapy that’s supportive but also gets into the work, you’ll feel at home here.

Perfectionism can feel like a never-ending cycle of stress and self-doubt. Here are some ways to break free:

✨ Set ‘good enough’ goals – Not everything needs to be perfect; sometimes ‘done’ is better than ‘flawless.’

✨ Challenge your inner critic – Would you talk to a friend the way you talk to yourself? Probably not.

✨ Embrace mistakes – They’re not failures; they’re feedback.

✨ Take imperfect action – Progress happens when you start, not when everything is ‘just right.’
