If you experience any of these symptoms you might have dysbiosis (imbalance in your gut microbiome) and candida overgrowth.

A few things that can increase the risk of imbalance and an overgrowth of yeast are:
- medications (antibiotics, steroids)
- oral birth control
- diet (high sugar & simple carbohydrates)
- high stress
- frequent alcohol use
- being overweight
- environmental toxins (pesticides, chemicals, mold, etc)
- diabetes

Let me know if you’ve experienced any other symptoms from candida overgrowth! ⬇️

Intermittent fasting can be a great tool to help support weight loss, metabolism, blood sugar, inflammation and heart health. It has also been shown to be helpful for menstruating women with PCOS or blood sugar dysregulation and men of all ages. ♥️

However, for the majority of menstruating women, especially if you are active, it might be causing more harm than good to your hormones. Intermittent fasting can cause too much stress in women’s bodies leading to elevated stress hormones like cortisol and imbalances in hormones like estrogen and progesterone which can affect the menstrual cycle, ovulation and potentially even fertility. Women are more sensitive than men to changes in nutrients and fasting in general. 🥗🥩🍳

There is no one size fits all diet and everyone respond differently and feels best on different types of diets, but it’s best to check with your provider before trying something new to make sure it is beneficial for you specifically!

What is your experience with intermittent fasting?

Testosterone is not just for men! It plays a 🔑 role in women’s health as well and both low and high levels can cause unwanted symptoms.

I commonly see testosterone levels starting to decrease in women’s late 30s- early 40s (and after having babies 👶🏼) and continues to decline into menopause.

Conversely, PCOS is one of the most common causes of elevated testosterone levels.

A few ways to support healthy testosterone levels include:
- sleep at least 7-9 hours per night 💤
- eat adequate amounts of protein 🥩
- strength training 💪
- reduce stress as much as possible 🧘
- limit alcohol and drug use 🍺

Additionally, there are supplements, herbs and hormone replacement therapy that can be helpful depending on the situation, which is why it’s always important to get your labs checked to see exactly where your levels are! 🩸 If your levels are high, there are often other things that could be contributing and it’s important to get a full panel to determine the cause and best treatment.

Progesterone is one of the first female s3x hormones that I see start to drop in women, generally in their 30s-40s and especially after having kids! Progesterone is so important to balance estrogen and to support quality sleep and mood.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms it is time to get your hormones checked! ✔️
