What if resilience isn’t about pushing harder, but learning how to truly rest?

This is what we’ll be exploring in a new immersive workshop hosted by my friend and myself next month. We’ll be blending nervous system science, sound, and sleep to help you reset stress and renew your energy.

More details coming soon! ✨🗓️

If you’re perimenopausal or menopausal and have no clue what the current status of your bone health is, this one is for you. 🦴

I get that it can feel like a game of whack-a-mole trying to keep tabs on all the different aspects of your health as you age, but my goal is to make it easier and less overwhelming.

When it comes to your bone health, especially for those of us in middle age, I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to stay on top of. And sometimes all that’s holding you back is knowing where to start.

Who knew one of the “side effects” of perimenopause is boundaries and self-respect?

This phase of life definitely brings its share of chaos, but it also has a way of shedding light on certain things. Suddenly you can see the cracks in your schedule, your relationships, your habits, and your self-neglect. Your nervous system is running on empty and you can’t ignore it any longer.

Three of the most uncommon symptoms of estrogen deficiency include, burning mouth, feeling like you’re crawling out of your skin (formication), and overactive histamine responses. Fun, right? 😭

Burning mouth can be attributed to disruptions in nerve signaling that are supported by estrogen. When estrogen levels fluctuate, it causes changes in how the nerves transmit sensory signals. That feeling of wanting to crawl out of your skin is also caused by your nerves misfiring or becoming more sensitive due to changes in estrogen.

As for the histamine response, which makes it feel like you’re having new or worse allergies, that is due to your mast cells (which release histamines). Estrogen interacts with these cells and when your levels swing, histamine release can be a lot more intense.

Recent studies found that there are about 40-50 different symptoms reported for women in perimenopause and menopause. Your hormones impact nearly every function in your body, that’s why keeping them balanced is crucial to avoid this chaos!

Three generations of women. 🫶

This picture got me thinking about how each of our experiences with womanhood and menopause will be different, shaped by the generations we grew up in.

Then I started thinking about Gen-X women and “elder” Millennials entering perimenopause and menopause. Many are using their social media platforms to share firsthand experiences with hormonal changes, bringing vulnerability, humor, and bluntness to the conversation, which is exactly what we need. Gone are the days when men would shudder at the words “the change” and women avoided talking about menstruation or menopause as if it weren’t something nearly all of us experience.

As someone who provides healthcare to women, specifically around hormone balancing, removing the shame and stigma around these topics is incredibly important to me. Let’s keep moving the needle forward, one funny, embarrassing, or emotional story at a time.

Piece of advice...don’t wait until you’re menopausal to start focusing on your hormone health.

An easy place to start is finding your baseline. This will be so helpful when you begin to approach perimenopause. You can start simple by using a journal or tracking app to log your cycles, symptoms, and flow to identify any irregularities and to get a fundamental look at what normal cycle looks like for you.

Another important step is developing a basic understanding of the phases of your cycle, common and uncommon symptoms of hormonal imbalances and perimenopause, and being aware of the other aspects of your health impacted by hormone changes. And unfortunately, it’s pretty much every area. 👎

This includes your mental/neurological, cardiovascular, bone, urinary and gut health. I know, it’s a lot, but being equipped with this knowledge on even the most basic level makes you a better health advocate for yourself!

Look, you don’t have to drive yourself crazy trying to learn everything about hormones and obsessively tracking your cycles, but know that there are lifestyle changes, tools and tons of emerging information on what to expect in perimenopause available. I’m telling you, it’s never too early to get your hormones in check ladies!

If you’re not sure where to start with immune support, start here! Think of this as the holy trinity of supplements for keeping your immune system on point.

And when you need something that packs a little more of a punch? That’s where nutrient IVs come in. These are one of my favorite ways to give my body an extra boost of vitamins and nutrients, especially during times when my immune system could use some backup.

One of these times definitely being before traveling (hello, airplanes full of germs 😅), when you know you’ll be more vulnerable to picking something up. They’re also an amazing tool during recovery, helping you stay hydrated and supporting optimal nutrient levels while your body does its thing.

PSA: Don’t wait until you’re already sick to start supporting your immune system 🤧

Once cold and flu season rolls around, I like to be proactive. Vitamin C, vitamin D, and zinc are easy go-tos for a little extra support. And if you have access to nutrient IVs like we offer at Desert Wellness Center, I’m a big fan. The extra vitamin C is incredibly nourishing and can be especially helpful if you do end up getting sick.

At the end of the day, your body already knows what to do, we’re simply helping it along.
