Trauma-Informed Birth Care: A Commitment to Safer, More Supportive Spaces⁣

Birth is a profound experience—one that can be deeply healing, but also deeply triggering for those with past trauma. As a midwife, I know that trauma doesn’t just impact the birthing person. Partners, support people, and even providers can also carry trauma—whether from past experiences, witnessing difficult births, or holding space for others’ pain.⁣

That’s why I’ve attended a course in Caring for Trauma Survivors in Birth with Dancy Perinatal—a training focused not only on supporting survivors but also on understanding secondary trauma, partner trauma, and provider trauma. Because creating a truly safe and supportive birth space means recognizing how trauma shows up for everyone in the room.⁣

💜 Secondary Trauma: Birth workers and providers witness immense joy but also immense pain. Without support, we can carry the emotional weight of the births we attend, impacting our ability to show up fully.⁣

💜 Partner Trauma: Witnessing a loved one in labor, especially if past experiences were difficult or traumatic, can bring up fear, helplessness, or even unresolved grief. Partners need space to process and tools to support.⁣

💜 Provider Trauma: Holding space for birth—especially in a system that often undervalues physiological birth and autonomy—can be deeply challenging. We must care for ourselves and each other so that we can continue to care for others.⁣

By deepening my understanding of trauma and resilience, I’m committed to ensuring that every person in the birth space—birthing people, their loved ones, and my fellow birth workers—feel seen, supported, and empowered.⁣

Some moments in midwifery leave a permanent mark on your heart, and this is one of them. 💕 These two sweet sisters were both born at home by an incredible mama, and I’m endlessly honored to be part of their family’s journey.⁣

Every family, every baby, teaches me something new—about love, resilience, connection, and the incredible strength within us all. Being invited back into a family’s sacred space, witnessing their growth, and seeing the bonds that form is a gift beyond words.⁣

To the families who entrust me with your most precious moments: thank you for shaping me as much as I hope to support you. You remind me every day why being a midwife is the most meaningful work. ✨⁣

Today, we honor the incredible dads who walk the journey of parenthood with so much love, care, and devotion. From holding hands and offering words of encouragement during labor to late-night diaper changes and snuggles in the postpartum glow—your presence makes all the difference. 💙⁣

We see you soothing fears, cheering her on, and stepping into this sacred space with courage and compassion. You are her rock, her teammate, and your baby’s first protector. Birth is a team effort, and the love and support you provide prenatally, in birth, and beyond are nothing short of extraordinary.⁣

To all the dads who’ve stood by in awe, wiped tears of joy, and celebrated the miracle of life—you are amazing. Thank you for all you do to support your growing families. 🍼✨⁣

🌏✈️ Two weeks, countless lessons, and a heart full of gratitude. My recent trip to the Philippines wasn’t just about learning—it was also about serving alongside incredible midwives and communities. 💕 ⁣

One of the unexpected highlights? Riding in ambulances owned by the birth centers!! 🚑 These aren’t your typical emergency rides—they’re lifelines, carrying mamas and their babies to the care they need with love and purpose. Every ride was a reminder of how resourceful and community-centered midwifery care can be. ⁣

From navigating narrow streets to seeing how these mobile units make a world of difference, I left inspired to bring this same energy back home. 🌟 ⁣

Cheers to the midwives who make miracles happen every day, whether it’s in the birth room or from the back of an ambulance. 🚨💪 ⁣

🌟 *Empowering Lives, Saving Futures* 🌟 ⁣

As a midwife, I’m always striving to deepen my knowledge and skills to better serve mothers and babies. I’m here in the Philippines having the incredible opportunity to participate in Helping Mothers and Babies Survive Training, earning my certification as a provider in life-saving interventions and working in my Master Trainer Certificate. ⁣

One of the most transformative tools we focused on yesterday was the Non-Pneumatic Anti-Shock Garment (NASG). This simple, reusable device is a game-changer in reducing maternal mortality caused by postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). ⁣

💡 What is the NASG?⁣
The NASG is a lightweight compression suit that helps stabilize women experiencing severe bleeding by improving blood flow to vital organs, buying critical time for transport and treatment. ⁣

👩‍⚕️ Why is it life-saving?⁣
- Quickly reduces blood loss and sends blood to vital organs by restoring blood pressure and oxygen supply to the brain and heart. ⁣
- Simple, safe, effective, and easy to use even in resource-limited settings. ⁣

Every second counts in an emergency, and tools like the NASG remind us that simple solutions can make the biggest difference. Together, we can ensure more mothers return home to their families, healthy and thriving. ⁣

I’m incredibly grateful for this hands-on training and can’t wait to integrate these skills into my practice. Let’s continue working towards safer births for all! 💕 ⁣

🌍 Exciting Opportunity Ahead! 🌍⁣

I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be heading to the Philippines from February 3rd through the 17th for a transformative learn-and-serve midwifery trip! This incredible journey is an opportunity to grow, learn, and contribute to maternal and child health on a global scale.⁣

During my time there, I’ll be collaborating with other midwives and health care workers, supporting families, and participating in workshops aimed at improving care in developing communities. It’s an honor to be part of this work, and I look forward to bringing back knowledge and experiences to continue serving our local families and community with even more insight and compassion.⁣

Please note, there will likely be a delay in response if you reach out to me during this time due to the international timeline and cellular service availability.⁣

My 2025 calendar is filling up and we’re already booking families into October 2025. ⁣

Thank you for your continued support as I embark on this meaningful adventure! Stay tuned and follow along through my stories and posts if you would like to share in this experience. I cannot wait to reconnect with my families once I am back. ⁣

Sending you love, light, and happiness always. ⁣

🖤 Moments of Pure Magic 🖤⁣

There’s something so profoundly special about these quiet moments after birth—the soft rustle of blankets, the warmth of the family bed, and the awe of meeting a brand-new soul.⁣

This sweet little one is having their first newborn exam, lovingly performed in the comfort of home, just a few inches from where they were born. With gentle hands and careful attention, we honor the sacredness of this transition while parents soak in every perfect detail of their baby.⁣

It’s in these tender moments that the beauty of home birth shines brightest—intimacy, love, and the rhythm of life unfolding just as it was meant to. ✨⁣
