3 Things You’re Doing Wrong That Are Keeping Your Skin DRY 👇🌵
1️⃣ Washing with Hot Water and Foamy Cleansers
🔥 Why it’s wrong: Hot water and high-foaming cleansers strip away your skin’s natural protective oils, damaging your barrier and leading to dryness.
🧼 Fix it: Use lukewarm water and switch to a gentle, low-pH cleanser with hydrating ingredients like glycerin or ceramides.
💡 Pharmacist Tip: If your skin feels tight after washing — that’s not “clean,” that’s stripped.
2️⃣ Skipping Moisturizer After Washing
⏳ Why it’s wrong: After cleansing, your skin loses water quickly. Waiting too long to apply moisturizer = water loss at the skin layers
💧 Fix it: Apply your moisturizer within 60 seconds of washing, while your skin is still slightly damp. This seals in hydration and supports your barrier.
💡 Pharmacist Tip: Think of moisturizer as your skin’s top coat — it locks everything in.
3️⃣ Using Too Many Active Ingredients (or Using Them Too Often)
🧪 Why it’s wrong: Retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, benzoyl peroxide — while effective, they can dehydrate and irritate the skin if overused or not balanced with soothing products.
🧴 Fix it: Introduce actives slowly (2–3x/week), buffer them with moisturizers, and listen to your skin.
💡 Pharmacist Tip: More actives ≠ more glow. Overloading = over-drying.
🚿 Bonus: Not Using a Humidifier or Drinking Enough Water
If you’re in a dry climate or spend hours in air conditioning or heat, your skin is literally evaporating moisture. Add a humidifier, drink water, and layer a hydrating serum under your moisturizer for extra oomph.
