Here on Maui there is a non-profit Funeral Home that I visited here in Haiku years ago. As some of you know, I trained as a Death Doula and am an End-of-Life Educator, speaker for conservation/green burial and was a Board member for the National Home Funeral Alliance.
Talking openly about our fears of death, understanding how we might find supportive ways to process death and the overwhelming feelings of loss, having ritual and a visceral/experiential way to honor those who have passed….are all ways of channeling the feeling of helplessness into something more empowered and life affirming for our Sacred time here on Earth.
Please consider a donation to this beautiful organization as a meaningful way to support the families who are not only grieving their loved ones and experiencing loss of home and businesses…but will also need to fund funeral expenses.
Doorway Into Light is the only nonprofit funeral home in Hawaii, since 2012 ~ A certified green funeral home providing green burials and ocean body burials and many services not offered in most funeral homes.
Executive Director Reverend Bodhi Be made the following announcement on their newsletter today:
We provide low-cost and no-cost funeral services to those families with little and no money.
We're now wanting to help families who have had someone die in the Lahaina fire. We're seeking funds to provide free burial services to these families. In this time of grief we would like to support them by eliminating the additional monetary burden that comes with death.
As funding is received we will offer this through social media as well as word of mouth.
As a nonprofit organization, over the years, we have counted on donations to support our abilities to continue to offer all of the free and 'by donation' services we offer and are known for.
Our larger wish is to provide free funeral and burial services for all of Maui's homeless, low-income and veterans.
As a 501c3 nonprofit, all donations are tax deductible.
Any size donations are very welcome.
