Today, we honor the life and legacy of Anna Westin. 🧡

Anna was a vibrant, caring young woman who lost her life to an eating disorder on February 17, 2000, at just 21 years old. In the wake of her passing, her family became tireless advocates—fighting for better treatment access, awareness, and policy change.

Because of Anna, lives have been saved. Because of the Westin family’s advocacy, eating disorders are now recognized as a federal health issue, and more people can access the care they deserve.

We remember Anna today and always, and we hold her family, friends, and all who loved her in our hearts. 🧡

🎙️ Hear from Anna’s mother, Kitty Westin, as she reflects on Anna’s story, the fight for better treatment access, and the passage of the first federal eating disorder legislation.

It has been a joy to walk with so many women in their recovery from an eating disorder. In June I retired to pursue my education in Spiritual Direction and writing about my life and inner healing by the HolySpirit beyond the eating disorder. While my website can still be found at www.eatingbyfaith.com I am in the process of re-building it to reflect my whole life journey and my shifting sands of faith. My book Eating by Faith can be purchased through Amazon or reaching out to me. I appreciate your patience as I follow the path God has led me to, and with getting my Substack up and running. Look for my first post coming soon, and monthly thoughts, musings, and essays.

Join me as I navigate the shifting sands of my faith journey and how healing my distorted evangelical view of God is healing my distorted image of self created by childhood abuse and compound by toxic theology. One year and I continue to ride the high of choosing to keep climbing...

I have faced so many “hard” things in my 59 years, why would I choose to add one more “hard thing” to my life? Well…Simply because this is a hard thing that I get to choose.

I am so happy that we know so much more about a body’s response to eating once you nourish it. I would get blazing headaches and clinicians would attribute it to the emotional stress of eating.

This week's first Medical Minute focused on what postprandial hypoglycemia feels like and why it happens especially in the early days of recovery for people with eating disorders of all body shapes and sizes. If you have any of these symptoms, stay tuned for part two of this topic (coming to you later today!) for more information on managing postprandial hypoglycemia.

How often do eating disorders and disorders get disguised behind the myth of “healthy eating?”

How often do eating disorders and disorders get disguised behind the myth of “healthy eating?”

If this doesn't get shared a couple of thousand times, I think I'm going to be disappointed...

'Today I asked my body what she needed,
Which is a big deal
Considering my journey of
Not Really Asking That Much.

I thought she might need more water.
Or protein.
Or greens.
Or yoga.
Or supplements.
Or movement.

But as I stood in the shower
Reflecting on her stretch marks,
Her roundness where I would like flatness,
Her softness where I would like firmness,
All those conditioned wishes
That form a bundle of
Never-Quite-Right-Ness,

She whispered very gently:

Could you just love me like this?'

A reminder that you don’t need to go alone.🥰

A reminder that you don’t need to go alone.🥰

"What we lack we can always find in the storehouses of the divine. There are streams of mercy never ceasing. There is, in the heart of God, enough compassion when we have nothing but lack. When we cannot stop trying harder, God makes us lay down in green pastures. When we do not have what it takes, we still always and forever have the God that it takes. And God never tires of being called upon for help. It’s like, God’s job."
