Connie has many wonderful memories and meaningful people in her life, but some of her fondest moments come from her years in 4-H. Growing up on a small farm in Farmersburg, she spent 10 years in 4-H showing cattle and later continued as both a junior leader and a 4-H leader. Connie raised several prize animals, winning with two Grand Champions and even showing at the State Fair.​

​One of her champions, Buttercup, was sold at auction for​ $0.62 per pound. Her dedication earned her recognition​ from the National Angus Association and special trips to​ the Purdue Roundup, the National Livestock Auction, and​ Washington, DC. Through 4-H state exchanges, she also​ enjoyed traveling and living with host families in Colorado, New Mexico, South Dakota, and Texas, even staying at an​ Indian fort, creating adventures she still treasures today.
