This afternoon, I visited the Union Health Nurse Apprenticeship Program. This program is a federally registered apprenticeship program that follows the essential foundations as directed by the Department of Labor, just like the many other skilled tradesmen and their apprentice programs, and is one of the first Nurse Apprenticeship programs in the state.

In just three years of this program, they graduated ~50 Nurse Apprentices who actively care for our community. Another 48 students are currently enrolled in the program. 100% of graduated apprentices passed their NCLEX on the first attempt.

Equally as important, this program partners Union Health with our local colleges. Ivy Tech, SMWC, and Indiana State University all participate in the Union Health Registered Nurse Apprenticeship Program. Many of the graduates have decided to leave their home communities and live right here in Terre Haute.

This program is actively combating our nationwide healthcare shortage right here in our community.

Terre Haute, IN, undoubtedly has its challenges. But innovation and a collaborative mentality will only help our city grow in the future.
