What comes out the back end of your cows can tell you a lot about your nutrition program. And believe it or not, there is a thing called “manure scoring”. Using this scoring tool can help you better understand how well the rumen is working. If the rumen is working good, then you know your money spent on nutrition isn’t getting crapped out the back end!

Let me help take the guess work out of how much protein you’re actually feeding. There’s a 5% protein difference between these two loads of corn gluten pellets. Same feed production plant produced both these pellets, delivered to the same farm. Ask yourself what is that costing your farm? What percent protein are your rations at?

Had a fun experiment feeding holsteins WITH herefords and black angus. These steers weighed around 450 lbs and were started on a TMR. Now they are getting finished out on TMR.

When cows are fed a balanced diet, they feel good! And these Mamas and babies feel good. They were curious to what I was doing and had to get some head scratches.

50 years ago, corn prices averaged $3.21/bushel

Today, we sold corn for less than that 😩 😢

What other commodity has went down and not went up in cost over the last 50 years?

In 1974,
Gas was 53 cents per gallon
A loaf of bread was 28 cents
A postage stamp was 10 cents
A new car was $3500

I know all of our inputs/costs sure have gone up. What’s wrong?? It’s sad, stressful and honestly scary.
