UAMS Regional Campuses is hosting the Undergraduate Pre-Health Conference April 17 on the UAMS Little Rock campus for undergraduates interested in pursuing a health care career. Application deadline is March 20! Sign up here. https://formstack.io/10731

Students from 2- or 4-year colleges in Arkansas and surrounding states are invited. The free event includes 6 breakout sessions with colleges of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, public health, health professions and the graduate school., campus tours and a panel discussion with current UAMS students.

If your high school student is thinking about a future in healthcare, UAMS MASH Camp may be a great option for them! The Texarkana Camp is June 1-12. Students in the program will experience behind the scenes activities and hear from professionals in multiple healthcare roles. For information and to download an application follow the link. The last Friday in February is National Thank A Resident Day and we enjoyed an opportunity to celebrate our outstanding and well-deserved residents at UAMS Southwest!

Sign up for free UAMS MASH and CHAMPS summer camps for rising juniors and seniors. The 22 camps last up to 2 weeks with hands-on suturing, workshops, field trips, CPR training, heart dissection and more. Deadlines range from March 13-May 8.

Dr. Lowry Barnes, new chancellor of UAMS, spoke to the Rural Health Association of Arkansas conference today, touting the 6 family medicine residency programs, 3 rural tracks and pursuit of more in the state. He mentioned our pipeline programs so folks can get introduced to health care early and hopefully pursue as a profession.

🌟 Employee Spotlight: Sunni Helton 🌟

Meet Sunni Helton, a dedicated Radiologic Technologist with the UAMS Texarkana X-ray Department who has been part of the UAMS family since May 23, 2022.

Sunni loves the collaborative environment of her role—working closely with physicians, residents, nurses, and patients every day. She takes pride in being part of the diagnostic process and helping ensure patients receive timely, effective care. Sunni also steps up wherever she’s needed, including assisting in the lab when support is required.

When it comes to success in her role, Sunni says it takes strong knowledge of anatomy and radiation safety, proficiency in digital imaging, clear communication, and compassionate patient care.

Originally from Idabel, Oklahoma, Sunni enjoys spending her free time outdoors—whether she’s fishing, gardening, or caring for her chickens. She also loves spending time with family and friends. And here’s a fun fact: she still loves watching cartoons!
