Pumping is a choice many make because they see the value in feeding their infant breastmilk but it isn't always an easy choice to make.

Pumping is time consuming and often takes more time and effort than feeding straight from the breast.

This , we want to celebrate the love and acknowledge the commitment that goes into pumping . We want to celebrate YOU: the pumpers, the support people, the cleanup crew, everyone who takes on a piece of the invisible labour of pumping.

How are you celebrating World Breast Pumping Day?

Breastfeeding is the most naturally unnatural thing you can do. It’s beautiful but overwhelming and a lot goes into it. It doesn’t have to be scary 👻

My best advice is to connect with a lactation consultant near you during your pregnancy, take a prenatal class, and educate yourself. You and your baby have to learn how to do this together but having someone you trust in your corner is so important. Just like you take the time to find an OB, pediatrician, prepare for your birth, set up your nursery you should do the same for breastfeeding.

No one but YOU gets to determine your nursing journey (well, maybe Baby gets to weigh in somewhat).

Family, ever hear the one about opinions are like rectums? Everyone’s got one! True enough, but other people’s opinions about YOUR breast/chest feeding YOUR BABY need not be a factor.

Start practicing now what you can say when faced with someone chiming in. There’s not one way to do this either. From “Butt out!” to “I appreciate your perspective, and yet I do not agree.” You do you, Boo!

🤱 Making sure baby's body is in line with yours will make latching easier for them! Make sure their shoulders, tummy, & hips are all turned toward you while nursing.

What’s your favorite Position?

Cross Cradle ✨
Also known as crossover hold, works well for nursing preemies, newborns, and babies that have trouble getting latched on. This position makes it easier to view your ni**le and your baby’s mouth. Plus, since you are holding your baby’s head, you have more control to guide your baby into a good latch.

Football Hold 🏈
Also called the clutch hold, the football position is the perfect choice for nursing twins. It is also a good position for breastfeeding after a cesarean section since the baby does not lay across your abdomen. Mothers with large breasts and those with flat or inverted ni**les may prefer to use this hold, too. It’s another position that offers a better view of your baby’s mouth and your ni**les.

Cradle 🤱🏼
Probably the most popular nursing position. It may be difficult to breastfeed in this position right from the start, but once your baby can latch on well, this is a comfortable and common way to breastfeed.

Side Lying ✨
This position is great when you’re tired and want to nurse while lying down. It’s a very natural choice for nighttime feedings, and it’s also helpful for moms who have had a c-section.

Laid back ✨
This natural position can be used from the first breastfeeding. It’s a good choice for anyone, but it may be especially helpful if you’re nursing a preemie, twins, or a baby that has difficulty latching on. My personal fav.

Whatever position feels right, removes milk effect, and is comfortable for you and baby do it! Nursing a toddler now I can tell you there’s no rules to this sometimes he’s upside down 🥹

World Breastfeeding Week 2024
Theme: Closing the gap, breastfeeding support for all
This theme is so poignant... quality breastfeeding support, coupled with a determined mama and solid postpartum support, can so often turn around breastfeeding issues so the mother baby dyad can enjoy a breastfeeding relationship for as long as they wish...
We expect breastfeeding to come naturally and easily and it OFTEN does, but when it doesn't, knowledgeable and compassionate support is literal GOLD.
Accessibility to these services should not be restricted by means or location.
Also acknowledging those who, for whatever reason, could not feed their babies the way they wished. Big love.

Happy World ✨Breastfeeding✨ Week!
Breastfeeding for one year is approximately 1800 hours.
Working a full time job with 3 weeks vacation is 1960 hours.
Remember that no matter how long you breastfed for Mama, you selflessly dedicated so much of your time and body for your baby. Whether you nursed for one week, one month, or one year you are amazing!
