🌶️🏆 Congratulations to our Chili Cook-Off winners! 🏆🌶️
Our residents cast their votes and crowned their favorite chili—what a fun and flavorful event! A big thank you to Elara Caring, Christus Home Health, and Dierksen Hospice for cooking up some truly delicious chili for our residents to enjoy. Great food, friendly competition, and lots of smiles all around! 💙😄

During our MLK Trivia and Facts today, Ms. Reba shared a powerful and deeply personal experience that truly moved everyone in the room 💙

She recalled being in the middle of a lesson at Melrose High School in Memphis, Tennessee, an all–African American school, when news broke that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had been assassinated. She described the shock and fear felt throughout the school and the nation—how emotions ran high, classrooms were disrupted, and school was closed for several days as the community tried to process the loss.

Ms. Reba shared that she had always been civic-minded and deeply inspired by Dr. King, especially his “I Have a Dream” speech. She remembered attending an Episcopalian church where an NAACP leader spoke about civil rights, and how Dr. King showed up in Memphis to support the sanitation workers’ strike. That moment stirred something in her—it led her to teach at Melrose High School because she felt called to make a difference.

She also reflected on marching in support of the sanitation workers and hearing a member of the Kennedy family speak at a rally. About a year after Dr. King’s death, she participated in another march that passed the Lorraine Motel, a moment she described as unforgettable and life-shaping.

Ms. Reba’s story was a powerful reminder of a time that shaped our nation—and of how Dr. King’s message continues to give us the opportunity to live with purpose, courage, and compassion.
