☀️📵 Summer time can make it easy for kids to spend extra time on screens now that school is out. While screen time can be fun, too much of it can affect sleep, attention, behavior, and physical activity.

The good news? Summer is full of opportunities to get kids out and about! 🌳💦🚲

Try activities like:

⚽ Outdoor play
📚 Reading together
🫧 Sensory activities

DID YOU KNOW? 👅

Tongue-tie, also called ankyloglossia, is a condition present at birth that can restrict a child’s tongue movement. It happens when the band of tissue under the tongue (the lingual frenulum) is too short or tight, causing the tongue to remain attached closely to the floor of the mouth.

👶 Common signs may include:
🔹 Difficulty breastfeeding or bottle feeding
🔹 Trouble swallowing
🔹 Delayed speech development or unclear articulation
🔹 Difficulty sticking the tongue out past the lips

Some children may also have a lip tie or even cheek ties, which can affect feeding, oral movement, and comfort.

Every child is different, and not all ties require treatment. If you have concerns about your child’s feeding, speech, or oral development, talk with your pediatrician or a speech-language pathologist. Early support and evaluation can make a big difference! 💙

Kruz had so much fun in the koi pond yesterday during Occupational Therapy with Ms. Caitlin! 🐟💦 He loved seeing the fish swim around and exploring the feeling of the water on his hands and feet. Sensory play like this helps children build confidence, coordination, and important sensory skills while having fun! We love watching our kiddos learn through play at Temple Memorial Pediatric Center 💙
