HOW DOES SOMEONE KNOW WHEN IT IS TIME TO CALL HOSPICE?

Choosing hospice care is electing another pathway in a patient’s care goals. Hospice is designed to promote comfort for those living with a terminal illness and six month prognosis. It isn’t only for cancer but can be elected for those with non-cancer illnesses such as heart disease, lung disease, neurological disorders (Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, ALS), and other conditions that are life limiting. When the focus of care is shifting to comfort, that is a good time to call hospice to discuss care.
