GREETINGS TAFT FAMILY! It's been a while since I've posted. I hope everyone is well and had a wonderful holiday with their family and friends.

Most all genealogy recors show that Robert Taft, b. 1640, London, was born to Richard Robert Taft, b. 1614, London and Margaret Faun b. 1620, London.

Here's the puzzle:

The marriage book kept by the church recorded the marriage of Richard Robert Taft to Margaret Faun to be June 3, 1646. Robert Taft would've been 6 years old. Who is the mother of Robert Taft b. 1640?

Thoughts? Anyone have any other records?

GREETINGS TAFT FAMILY! Have any of you submitted your DNA to any of the genealogy sites? I have, and it's been interesting to see the pull back of people I am related to on both sides of my family.

Have a great day! Stay safe and warm as we continue on through this winter storm!

It is said that all Tafts are related because they all descend from Robert Taft b. 1640. However, about 15 years ago there was a story that Robert Taft came over with his brother Matthew Taft. Later on, I discovered another story that a Matthew Taft did arrive in America, but he and Robert were not related.

Please note, I say "story" because I have no supporting documents or authorities on the issue.

Anyone have any facts or heard the same or similar stories? If so, please share with us.

GREETINGS TAFT FAMILY! It's been a long time since I've posted on the page. Genealogy takes a lot of time and sometimes a person needs a break after working on it for several years.

Currently, I am the only person working the Taft Family History tree in Ancestry.com and this page. If any of you are deep into genealogy and would like to assist, please let me know.

In the meantime, anyone have any short stories about the Taft family or pictures they'd like to share?

GREETINGS TAFT FAMILY! Wishing you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving!!

GREETINGS TAFT FAMILY! I started with 65 people on the Taft Family History tree. My father and his siblings were deceased and none of us knew names of relatives - we only knew my GF was born in New York. I knew the name of my GF's mother because my dad wanted to name me after her -- Minnie. My GF never talked about his family which led us to believe he may have been an only child. So I set out with flashlight in hand and began my quest.

I quickly found my GF's 7 sisters and brothers and their children, and so on. Then, I branched out, dug deeper and discovered that many people on Ancestry add people without confirming. What a nightmare.

I decided to research the name. I discovered that Taft is also Taffee and that Taffee may come from the Welsh name of Taa. The story is there were three brothers whose last name was Taa. They escaped to County Louthe Ireland during the invasion. Two brothers stayed and one went to England - his name was Robert. He changed the name to Taft.

After all my research, I began Taft Family History and have almost 7,500 people in the tree. I was the only one working the tree and couldn't dedicate research time. I looked for assistants, but wasn't successful. I miss researching and helping others find their Taft family members.

I'm curious as to what you all have found out about the name, where it originated, etc. I admit it - my DNA comes back with Welsh. Do any of you have the same?

Please share your stories.

Alphonso Taft served as the Attorney General and Secretary of War under President Ulysses S. Grant. He was also an American jurist, and and a diplomat and the founder of the Taft political dynasty. He was the father of President and Chief Justice William Howard Taft - the only President to be both president and Chief Justice.

As Secretary of War, Taft reformed the War Department by allowing commanders at Indian forts to choose who could start and run post tradership. While serving as Attorney General, he strongly held that African Americans must not be denied the right to vote through intimidation and violence. AG Taft coauthored a bill to Congress, signed into law by President Grant, that created the Elections Commission that settled the controversial Hayes-Tilden presidential election.

During his appointment of Secretary of War, he was appointed as minister to Austria-Hungary by Chester A. Arthur in 1882. He served until July 4, 1884, and was then transferred by President Arthur to Minister of Russia, and he served in St. Petersburg until August 1885.

Taft had a reputation for serving political office with integrity and character.

Ezra T. Benson to distinguish him from his famous great-grandson, Ezra Taft Benson, a Mendon and Uxbridge native, is famous as a key early apostle of the Mormon religion. He lived in Uxbridge between 1817–1835, or about 17 years, after his mother, Chloe Taft and father, John Benson, moved to a farm there. Ezra married Pamela Andrus, of Northbridge, on January 1, 1832, at Uxbridge. He had moved in with his family in an Uxbridge center Hotel in 1827. He and Pamela lived there in the 1830s, had children, and had a child who died, which is recorded in the Uxbridge Vital Records. He later managed and owned the hotel in Uxbridge Center before investing in a cotton mill at Holland, Massachusetts. He moved to Holland Mass in 1835. He later moved to Illinois, and became a Mormon apostle.

Ezra joined the LDS Church at Quincy, Illinois in 1840, entered plural marriages, marrying seven more wives after Pamela. He was called to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles by Brigham Young in 1846, a high post within the LDS Church. He had eight wives and 32 children. He was a Missionary to the Sandwich Islands, also known as Hawaii. He served as a Representative to the Utah Territorial Assembly. He died in Ogden, Utah, in 1869.

GREETINGS TAFT FAMILY! Happy Sunday!

People and organizations who work hard to preserve history are amazing! I'm not sure of the process, but I imagine preserving paper from the 1600s can be painstakingly tedious.

For example, this Church Book where births, deaths, marriages and other information was recorded. I was in awe when I came across this 12 years ago and still am..

I marked the marriage of my 8th great-grandfather, Richard Robert Taft to Margaret Faun on Jan 1, 1629. It amazes me to know that in the 1600s and even further back, people knew to preserve family history.
