🧠 A is a bulge in a blood vessel in the brain. It can rupture without warning, leading to a life-threatening stroke. Many aneurysms go undetected so it’s critical to be aware of the most common symptom as well as risk factors.

Across our broader HCA Healthcare network, caregivers treated more than 3,000 brain aneurysms last year. HCA Healthcare has 43 comprehensive stroke centers and cares for more than 70,000 patients admitted for stroke treatment annually.

If you’re concerned about your risk for an aneurysm, talk to your doctor. And if you have a sudden, severe headache, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. Know where to find emergency care near you: https://bit.ly/4s77qCR

If you’re not feeling merry and bright this holiday season, you’re not alone. The holidays can be a joyful time, but they can also bring anxiety and emotional strain. Knowing the symptoms of depression can help you recognize when you’re feeling more than seasonal stress.

If you’re struggling with depression, these tips from the NAMI may help you manage it better so you can enjoy holiday festivities:

🎯 Be aware of your personal triggers.
✍️ Try journaling or writing a gratitude list to shift your perspective.
📅 Do your best to avoid overscheduling – it’s okay to say no.
🛑 Set boundaries with people who make you feel negative emotions.
🧘 Make time for relaxation, deep breathing or meditation to help ease stress.
🍷 Drink in moderation as alcohol can amplify negative emotions.

Across our broader HCA Healthcare system of care, we are part of an integrated network of mental health and wellness facilities, comprising over 50 inpatient facilities and more than 200 outpatient programs across 15 states. If you live in the U.S. and you’re in emotional distress or concerned about a loved one, you can also call or text the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline at 988 or start a live chat with a crisis counselor at https://bit.ly/3Yy5XI5 any time, day or night.

For the fifth consecutive time our facility, including our partnering campus, has earned a 3-star rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons — the highest rating any hospital can receive for cardiac surgery. And for the first time ever the three-star rating has been earned in all five of the award categories.

• Absence of mortality
• Absence of morbidity
• Use of Left Internal Mammary Artery
• Exceptional medication use
• And the overall 3-star ranking

This is an honor held by very few high-volume programs in the nation.
This designation means a cardiac surgery program consistently performs better than approximately 97.5% of all other programs, demonstrating superior quality for patient care and surgical outcomes. “This is truly a testament to the strength of our program, the leadership of Dr. Hannan Chaugle, and the unwavering support of our cardiologists.
Like in all great healthcare accomplishments, it always comes down to teamwork, and I could not be prouder of the cardiovascular team that comes to work every day committed to making life better for our patients.”- Todd Caliva, CEO

feel different for everyone – it can be a dull ache or a sudden, sharp stabbing sensation. Regardless of how it feels, it’s important to take chest pain seriously. If the discomfort sticks around, it could be a sign of a more serious, potentially life-threatening condition like a heart attack or a blood clot.

Last year across our broader HCA Healthcare network, our emergency rooms saw nearly 838,000 visits related to cardiac complaints. You know your body better than anyone. If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts. And if your chest pain is severe or accompanied by any of the symptoms shown here, seek emergency care immediately. This , we’re especially grateful for the compassion, strength and dedication that define our HCA Houston Healthcare family – and for the opportunity to show up for others in meaningful ways.

Throughout the month, our colleagues have hosted food drives and volunteered at local food banks sorting, packing and loading food to provide meals for those in need in the communities that we serve.

HCA Healthcare’s commitment to community goes beyond clinical care. In 2024, the organization contributed more than $48.5 million in enterprise giving to community organizations, while colleagues volunteered 240,000 hours and contributed $18 million to community organizations — matched by HCA Healthcare.

Each year, in November, our hospital employees donate non-perishable food items to support the local efforts of Galveston County Food Bank. The food bank is especially busy this time of the year.

Hospital leaders had the opportunity to present our donation--183 pounds of non-perishable food items--and stayed to help sort additional goods in the warehouse, as well as pack fresh groceries for families. It is our pleasure to give back to our community!

is an irregular or rapid heartbeat, also known as atrial fibrillation (AFib), often triggered by binge drinking. Alcohol consumption tends to spike between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day so, while holiday heart syndrome can happen any time of year, it's most common during the holiday season. And it can show up when you least expect it – especially after too much alcohol, stress or salty food – so be on the lookout for these warning signs:

😴 Fatigue
😵‍💫 Dizziness
💓 Heart palpitations
😮‍💨 Difficulty breathing
💢 Chest discomfort

If you notice any of these symptoms, it could be more than just the holiday hustle and bustle. Know where to go in case of an emergency: https://bit.ly/4rqZLz8

Together, the American Heart Association, our larger HCA Healthcare network and the HCA Healthcare Foundation are working to foster cardiovascular health, prevent stroke and improve patient outcomes by increasing cardiology and neurology collaboration, deploying evidence-based education and interventions, and identifying and minimizing health disparities.

No matter what you’ve got cooking this , remember to prioritize safety. In crowded kitchens and around deep fryers, accidents can happen fast. Each year around Thanksgiving, there’s an increase in cooking-related burn injuries, and unattended cooking is the primary cause, according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Follow these tips for what to avoid if you or someone else needs .

If you suffer a mild or first-degree burn, the affected area may swell or turn red. You can treat these burns at home with simple first aid steps:

🧼Clean the area with soap and cool water.
🧴Apply a thin layer of ointment.
🩹Dress the wound with sterile non-stick gauze.
💊Take over-the-counter medication to manage pain.

For more serious burns, immediate medical attention is critical. You can always find help fast at your local emergency room – but for complex cases, specialized care is available through our broader HCA Healthcare network, home to 11 American Burn Association-recognized burn centers across nine states.

We joined forces with hundreds of community members this past Saturday to rally against heart disease and raise funds for the American Heart Association during the annual Heart Walk. The combined Clear Lake and Mainland team raised more than $7,000 leading up to the event!

Since the American Heart Association was founded in 1924, deaths from cardiovascular diseases have been cut in half. But heart disease still remains the leading cause of death in this country. We are proud to be supporting partners of the American Heart Association.

We were honored to join local law enforcement for the Drug Enforcement Administration - DEA ’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day where 1,300 pounds of unneeded prescription drugs was collected. This event offers a secure way to dispose of unused or expired medication while raising awareness about the dangerous consequences of prescription misuse.

As caregivers and members of the HCA Healthcare family, we are proud to be among the more than 140 collection sites across our unified network of care. Thank you to everyone who participated by cleaning out their medicine cabinets to make sure that unused prescription drugs don't find their way into the wrong hands.

is the leading cause of cancer-related death according to the CDC. Many people don’t know the hidden risks they may be exposed to every day. Common lifestyle risk factors include:

🚬Smoking and exposure to secondhand smoke
💨Exposure to radon, a colorless and odorless radioactive gas that occurs naturally in soil
🦠Inhaling hazardous chemicals like asbestos, uranium and other toxic products
🏭Exposure to particle pollution, such as inhaling tiny particles from exhaust smoke
🎗️Prior radiation to treat other cancers

In addition to lifestyle risk factors, a family history of lung cancer may also increase your risk. Fortunately, lung cancer is most treatable when it’s caught early. Across our larger HCA Healthcare system of care, Sarah Cannon Cancer Network treats over 12,000 cases each year, bringing deep experience and compassionate care to every patient.

If you think you may have an increased risk for lung cancer based on these risk factors, talk with your doctor or schedule an appointment with one of our experts: https://bit.ly/492orXP
