A can happen after a hard hit to the head or a sudden jolt that causes the brain to move inside the skull. 🧠 Because some symptoms show up right away – and others may not appear for hours or even days – it’s not always easy to know when to simply rest and when to seek medical care.

Every birth story is unique.🤰 For some moms, it may involve cesarean delivery, also known as a C-section. Doctors perform this major abdominal surgery for a variety of reasons, often related to complications during pregnancy or delivery. If you’re expecting a baby, it’s important to understand the risks and benefits of the procedure. For example, having a C-section increases the chance that you will need a C-section for future deliveries.

Each year, more than 200,000 babies are born in hospitals across our broader HCA Healthcare network. If you’re expecting and exploring your birth options – including when a C section might be recommended – finding the right obstetrician is an important first step. Alejandro Gutierrez, 41, was at work when he suddenly knew something wasn’t right. “I didn’t know what was happening to me, but I knew I didn’t feel right,” he said.

After reporting chest pain and jaw tightness, the job site safety team called EMS — and their suspicion of a heart attack was quickly confirmed.

Alejandro arrived at the HCA Houston Healthcare Mainland Emergency Department alert, but his condition rapidly declined. He was experiencing a STEMI — the most severe type of heart attack, caused by a complete blockage of blood flow to the heart. The emergency and Cath lab teams moved immediately. Nurses, respiratory therapists and cardiac specialists worked seamlessly to stabilize him and restore circulation — even after he coded during the procedure.

Days later, the husband and father of two was sitting up, laughing and sharing his story. His survival wasn’t by chance. It was the result of early recognition and a team ready to act when every second matters. Today, Alejandro is smiling — grateful for more time with his family.

Every year in the U.S., around 900,000 people are diagnosed with serious blood clots, also called venous thromboembolisms (VTEs). More than half of these patients are hospitalized, and many don’t realize what’s happening until symptoms send them to the emergency room. Recognizing the warning signs early – and seeking care fast – can save lives.

❤️ Have you heard of ? It happens when the heart's electrical signals fall out of rhythm, which can lead to an irregular heartbeat and a range of symptoms. Some arrhythmias are harmless, while others may need more attention.

Arrhythmias can affect anyone. If your heartbeat feels a little "off" or you're noticing unusual symptoms, it's best to get it checked out. If you're experiencing chest pain, severe shortness of breath or fainting, seek emergency care right away.

If you'd like to get your symptoms checked and it's not something requiring emergency care, schedule an appointment with one of our cardiologists: https://bit.ly/4ac4Wfx

It's all love! .... Especially when it comes to our commitment to heart health. Today, we raised awareness of women's cardiovascular disease, along with the importance of prevention and education.
Our heart hospital, located across the street from the main hospital in Clear Lake, sets the standard for cardiovascular care with our leading technology and team of expert specialists. In 2025 we set a record for open heart surgeries in one year, reaching a final number of 517. Together, the Mainland and Clear Lake campuses are here to support families in our community.

Burn injuries can happen quickly – at home, outdoors or during everyday routines. This National Burn Awareness Week, we’re joining the American Burn Association in spotlighting this year’s theme: “Burn Prevention Where You Live, Work and Play – Preventing Burns in the Workplace.” While many burns occur in places like kitchens, workshops or industrial settings, prevention starts with awareness wherever you are. Explore simple, proactive steps to help keep you and your family safe: https://bit.ly/4abrcF3

Mild, first‑degree burns – often marked by redness, pain or slight swelling – can typically be cared for at home using simple first-aid steps like gently cleaning the area with cool water and soap, applying a thin layer of ointment and covering with sterile, non‑stick gauze. Over‑the‑counter medication can help with discomfort. Follow the tips we’re sharing here on what to avoid when treating a burn.

For more serious burns, especially those involving deeper tissue or larger areas, prompt medical attention is critical. Emergency rooms are prepared to provide timely care. For complex cases, specialized treatment is available through our broader HCA Healthcare network, including 11 American Burn Association-recognized burn centers across nine states.

We recently cut the ribbon on our long-awaited progressive care unit, which will offer a new level of treatment for patients who trust us with their recovery.
Progressive care units (PCU), also known as step-down or intermediate care units, have the space and equipment for treating complex patients who may be recovering from a heart attack, stroke, or critical surgery. Patients on a PCU require more support than what is offered on a standard hospital unit. However, they are not as ill as patients being seen in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Colleagues and partners close to the project gathered to celebrate this important expansion of services.
