Dr. Vick is our Resident Curriculum Director, a position she puts her heart and soul into to create the best possible experience for our residents each year. All of our program alumni feel fortunate to have trained with Dr. Vick, who has left an indelible mark on generations of trainees who have come through this program. Scenes from our recent Simulation Saturday Workshop! Shout out to our incredible faculty who organized this event for our residents to gain hands-on experience with challenging clinical scenarios, difficult airways, POCUS, and OSCE practice. This was an amazing team effort with special thanks to Residency Program Director Dr. Erik Romanelli, Residency Curriculum Director Dr. Angela Vick, and Assistant Residency Program Director Dr. Giselle Jaconia.

⭐️NEW RESEARCH⭐️

The Anesthesia Risk Assessment Score (ARAS) is a simple tool developed by our Digital Health Lab & Preoperative Evaluation team that predicts outcomes better than the ASA score. It has been integrated into Montefiore Health System's Epic system, allowing our providers to more effectively assess patients' perioperative risk and provide preoperative interventions.

Incredible team effort at these recent multidisciplinary simulation workshops organized by our Division of Critical Care Medicine. Attending Anesthesiologist and Intensivist Dr. Michael Kiyatkin, Moses PACU Director, has been facilitating the new simulations together with nurse and physician colleagues from Perioperative Services, the Division of Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Medicine, and the departments of Anesthesiology, Otolaryngology, and Emergency Medicine. Dr. Bilal Tufail, Attending Anesthesiologist and recent graduate of our Advanced Airway Fellowship, has also been instrumental in running the simulations.

These "in situ" simulations have been a great opportunity for clinicians to come together to better prepare for emergency events including cardiac arrest and difficult airway management in the PACU, ED, and Step-Down Unit. Amazing team work to all involved!

Our Cardiothoracic Anesthesia Division had a fantastic time at the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists Annual Meeting this past week in Montreal!

Three of our Anesthesiology Residents -- Drs. Danielle Nogoy, Yitzchak Dayan, and Rishabh Kodia -- presented their work, in addition to presentations and participation from our four Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellows -- Drs. Gaetano Florio, Shaopeng Huang, Anjan Saha, and Imran Sharaf. Congratulations to all on their excellent work!

A special congratulations to Dr. Saha, who received the Early Career Research Award for his work as first author on the study, "Pre-Transplant Blood Transfusion and Outcomes in Lung Transplant Recipients. Henry Hoang, medical student at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, also joined the ACTA team and presented an abstract that was selected as a Best of Meeting Presentation. Mr. Hoang presented the study, "Association Between COVID-19 Infection and Post-Operative Outcomes Following Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting: A Retrospective Cohort Study," for which he was first author.

Shout-out to our Vice Chair of Professional Affairs & Co-Director of the Montefiore Einstein Center for Heart & Vascular Care Dr. Jonathan Leff, who facilitated a professional development workshop.
