Earlier this year, our Sapna team was thrilled to celebrate Eid at City Hall with song, dance, & a special recognition for โ€™s own mental health counselor, Arpita Chatterjee! Congratulations to Arpita for receiving a citation from Councilmember Farias () for her commitment to ensuring all New Yorkers have access to mental health services grounded in community and care. Over the past four years she has provided counseling in Bangla and Hindi, helping South Asian immigrant women access mental health services in their own language from someone who understands their culture.

We are looking for a ๐ฉ๐š๐ซ๐ญ-๐ญ๐ข๐ฆ๐ž ๐„๐ง๐ ๐ฅ๐ข๐ฌ๐ก ๐ข๐ง๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฎ๐œ๐ญ๐จ๐ซ to teach beginner and lower intermediate group ESOL classes online to South Asian immigrant women. Classes focus on building spoken English proficiency while creating a safe space for women to meet and build community.

๐Ÿ”น Fluency in a South Asian language is NOT required. Native level fluency in English required.
๐Ÿ”น Strong computer skills & comfort using Google Meets required.
๐Ÿ”น Daytime morning availability required.
๐Ÿ”น While classes are online, we are looking for someone who is able to join Sapna NYC community events in-person a few times a year.

Sapna NYC kicked off our June voter education workshops with a workshop in Kensington partnering with . We talked about whatโ€™s on the ballot this June, voting rights, and how ranked-choice voting works. Participants had a chance to fill out sample ballots to make sure that their voices will be heard and the polls ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ!

Yesterday over 20 community leaders met with & to uplift the stories and needs of our diverse AAPI communities in NYC. As the city budget gets finalized, we need to ensure that our communities are not forgotten. Together we spoke about the need for continued funding for immigration, food insecurity, mental health, seniors, & anti-hate, especially in light of federal budget cuts and continued city contracting delays.
