Reusable Lenses Prove Safe and Sustainable Alternative for Ophthalmic Laser Procedures

Findings should reassure eye doctors that adverse effects are negligible with this cost-effective and eco-friendly method.

In the study, researchers reviewed outcomes from 2,285 eyes of 1,363 patients who underwent either YAG capsulotomy or selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) between 2014 and 2023. Across the entire cohort, only one eye (0.044%) developed post-procedure conjunctivitis, and no cases of keratitis were reported. Importantly, the single case of conjunctivitis occurred within one day of a capsulotomy and was attributed to medicamentosa, the study authors reported.
