North Central Public Health District

North Central Public Health District We promote public health in Wasco and Sherman counties in North Central Oregon

We strive so that one day all people will live in a safe environment free from fear of preventable diseases; that all businesses, organizations and individuals will have access to health information and have the desire to promote and be responsible for a healthy lifestyle for themselves and each other. NCPHD is responsible for enforcement and administration of public and environmental health laws of federal, state, and county government. We conduct activities necessary for the preservation of health, prevention of disease, and protection of the public. We do this by following the three core public health functions:

Assessment
Monitoring
Policy Development

OHA continues to monitor federal legislative developments and their impacts on WIC funding as the government shutdown continues.

USDA has provided additional funding to Oregon’s WIC program, which enables WIC to continue into November. As soon as we have additional information, we will share it with partners and participants.

Parents aren’t the only ones who put babies to sleep—grandparents, babysitters and other caregiver do too.

Talk with grandparents and other caregivers about this safe sleep information:
• Always put baby to sleep on his or her back.
• Don’t use pillows, blankets, stuffed toys, or crib bumpers anywhere in baby’s sleep area.
• Avoid placing baby to sleep on soft things like couches or upholstered chairs, or comforters.
• Make sure no one smokes around baby.

Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women in the United States. While breast cancer occurs mostly among older women, about 9% of all reported cases are among women under age 45.

The risk of breast cancer among young women varies based on factors such as family and personal history of cancer. Many young women do not know their risk for this disease or are not aware of ways to lower their risk.

Know your risk by scheduling a screening appointment with your health care provider. If you don't have a health care provider, contact your local health center or call 211.

For individuals who are uninsured or underinsured, breast cancer screening is available free of cost through ScreenWise. Information on becoming a ScreenWise patient can be found at https://ow.ly/2EAv50X83lA

Today is . According to the CDC, 47.3% of all women in the United States have reported experiencing contact sexual violence, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetimes. For non-Hispanic American Indian or Alaska Native women, this number is much higher: 57.7%. This is unacceptable.

NNEDV invites you to follow and support organizations like the Alliance of Tribal Coalitions To End Violence, the National Indigenous Women's Resource Center, and StrongHearts Native Helpline as they work to support Native survivors all year long. 💜
