Bloodborne Pathogen Training Requirement at Renewal Began July 1, 2025 for Oregon Board of Cosmetology…

1. What is bloodborne pathogens training?
Bloodborne pathogens training is a safety course designed to educate individuals on how to prevent exposure to harmful microorganisms that are transmitted through blood and other bodily fluids. The goal of bloodborne pathogens training is to ensure that individuals in healthcare, beauty, and other relevant fields are equipped with the knowledge to protect themselves and others from infection and to handle potential exposure situations effectively.

2. Who is required to take bloodborne pathogens training?
All Cosmetology field of practice certification holders (hair design, barber, estheticians, nail technicians and natural hair care), who renew their certification(s).

3. What is required for bloodborne pathogens training during renewal of my field of practice?
To renew your certification, you must attest that you have a current certification in bloodborne pathogens training. This is a requirement for all Cosmetology certification holders renewing a field of practice certificate under Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR) 817-008-0000.
