October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to focus on education, early detection, and support.
When found early, breast cancer can often be treated successfully.
Be mindtul of changes such as new lumps, swelling, dimpling, redness, ni**le discharge, or pain.
While changes may not indicate cancer, it is strongly recommended that you check with your physician.
Regular self-exams, clinical exams, and mammograms are important:
• Women 40-49 should talk with their physician about when to begin screening.
• Women 50-74 at average risk should have a mammogram
every two years.
• Mammogram Day, the third Friday in October, is a reminder to schedule your screening.
Prevention steps include staying active, keeping a healthy weight, limiting alcohol, not smoking, and keeping up with routine check-ups.
Show your support this month by wearing pink. Wear Pink Day is October 25 this year and many people take part in “Wear Pink Wednesdays.” It is a simple way to honor survivors, remember loved ones, and spread awareness.

Happy Teddy Bear Day
Teddy bears have stood the test of time as symbols of comfort, warmth, and companionship. Whether given as a gift or kept as a keepsake, these soft and familiar friends offer a special kind of reassurance. Celebrated on September 9, National Teddy Bear Day honors the simple joy these stuffed animals bring. They remind us that something so small can carry deep meaning, providing peace, fond memories, and joy through every stage of life.
Recently, memory bears have gained popularity. These custom-made keepsakes are often lovingly made from clothing that once belonged to someone special. A favorite shirt, dress, or familiar fabric can become a lasting reminder of a loved one's warmth and presence. For example, if Grandma adored sunflowers, a bear made from her favorite sunflower-printed dress can be a beautiful tribute.
Creating a memory bear can be a meaningful way to grieve, heal, and celebrate life. For both children and adults, they offer a tangible connection to those they hold dear, preserving precious memories and providing comfort for years to come.

Looking for ways to celebrate?
Here are some ideas to get you started:
Family Gatherings: Enjoy a meal together, whether it’s dinner or afternoon ice cream.
Share stories, memories, and quality time with one another.

Activities Together: Spend the day doing activities grandparents enjoy, like listening to music, bowling, gardening, or playing cards and board games.

Video Messages: For long-distance families, arrange video calls or send video messages to connect. Text or email photos if you’re not able to arrange a video call.

Take the extra time this Sunday to recognize, appreciate, and celebrate the unique impact grandparents have on our lives through their wisdom, love, support and guidance. They are amazing! Let’s take a little extra time today to remind them ❤️

National Senior Citizens Day is the day to let them know how much you care and it’s an opportunity to recognize their accomplishments. In 1988, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed this holiday to raise awareness about issues that affect senior citizens and their quality of life. Today, seniors are still active in their communities as well as continuing to have a strong presence in the workforce. For all they do and have achieved for the good of their communities, senior citizens deserve our thanks!
National Senior Citizens Day recognizes seniors who have spent their lives contributing to society and have impacted everyone’s lives for the better. Improved healthcare has changed demographics and increased productivity of older citizens, allowing them to be more active than ever before. With more opportunities available as well, many senior citizens now begin second careers and are an example for younger generations. The country’s foundation and stable sectors are the result of the hard work of our senior citizens and they deserve all our gratitude. There are many traditions when it comes to senior citizens, especially since many of our traditions growing up were set by them. Take the time to recreate your family’s traditions today, and be sure to include your grandparents and other elderly people in your family.

Wonder what it’s like to see the world from a “left-handed” point of view? On International Lefthanders Day, you get to explore that world for a day. Did you know Presidents Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama were all left-handed? Rock out with Paul McCartney or Jimi Hendrix, the world’s greatest left-handed guitarist. (Stevie Ray Vaughan, born right-handed, learned to play a left-handed guitar like his hero, Hendrix). There’s also Oprah Winfrey, Julia Roberts and Lady Gaga, left-handers all. In baseball, there were the legendary “southpaws, Babe Ruth and Sandy Koufax.
Today is a fun day that celebrates the differences and distinctiveness of left handed individuals. There are lots of different positive attributes that are associated with left handed individuals, even though most struggle with scissors. 😂 Do you know what they are? So, if you’re left-handed, grab your left-handed cup and make a toast to all left-handers, everywhere.

As we welcome August and hopefully move from the warmth of summer to the cooler embrace of fall, it's the perfect opportunity to reflect on our health and well-being. With the longer days and hot days behind us, let’s prioritize maintaining our healthy habits by incorporating all the delicious seasonal fruits and vegetables into our diets, such as crisp apples and hearty squash, while staying active in the refreshing air.
This month provides a wonderful chance to set new wellness goals and embrace activities that nurture both our physical and mental health. Whether it's taking a fitness class, taking daily walks in a nearby park, or even practicing mindfulness through meditation, every small step reinforces our commitment to a healthier lifestyle.
Together, let’s look forward to making August not just a transition into a new season, but a month of revitalization and growth, filled with opportunities to connect with loved ones and find joy in our everyday wellness journey. Remember, our health is a continual journey, and now is the perfect time to invest in ourselves as we step into a season of change.

National Parents' Day honors all parents and parental figures in July. No matter where our parents may be, this day serves to celebrate their important role in our lives.
In May we celebrated mothers, and in June we celebrated fathers. It follows that in July we can bring all our parents together and show them some appreciation all at once.
Parents play a vital role in the lives of children. From our birth, parents protect, teach, provide, and serve as role models. As part of a family, we look to them for guidance. We mirror their behavior and learn to be a core part of our communities. Throughout our lives, our parents lead us to be independent thinking individuals. As many of us know, those efforts can be challenging. The world is changing as quickly as they grow. Often the sleepless nights and worry seem endless. Today, we especially focus and we honor all parents who do everything to raise and protect their children.
