We're seeing an increase in parainfluenza virus, which is the most common cause of croup. Most kids will get better with little intervention and some improve breathing in the cool air on the car ride over. However, in more severe cases, your child may wake up at night, gasping or have a loud whistle sound called stridor when taking in a breath.
