If luck fixed OCD, you wouldn’t need treatment.

OCD isn’t caused by bad luck.
And recovery doesn’t happen by chance.

It happens through structured, evidence-based treatment.

You don’t need more reassurance.
You don’t need to “just relax.”
You don’t need to wait for symptoms to disappear on their own.

You need the right tools.

OCD is highly treatable — not lucky, not random — treatable.

Reassurance for someone with OCD is not helpful... Let's talk about it.
When someone asks:
“Are you sure I didn’t do something wrong?”
“Are you sure everything is okay?”
“Are you sure I won’t hurt someone?”

And they get reassurance, anxiety drops — briefly.

But the brain learns:
➡️ “That thought was dangerous.”
➡️ “I need reassurance to feel safe.”

So the cycle strengthens.

ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention) works because we don’t feed that loop.
We teach the brain it can tolerate uncertainty.

It’s uncomfortable.
It’s structured.
And it works.

Intrusive thoughts happen to everyone.

They can be random, uncomfortable, or even disturbing — and that can make people feel confused or ashamed.

But having an intrusive thought does not mean you want it or believe it.

When we talk about intrusive thoughts openly and without judgment, we help reduce shame and remind people they are not alone.

Together, we can help normalize what the mind does.

Delayed diagnosis in OCD can mean years of unnecessary suffering — not because people didn’t ask for help, but because the signs were misunderstood or missed.

On May 1, we’re hosting an educational event focused on early identification, awareness, and prevention of delayed diagnosis.

We hope to see you there! Get your tickets here: https://ocdanxietythewoodlands.com/event/understanding-ocd/

Spring break is supposed to feel relaxing.

But when you live with OCD, routine changes can increase symptoms.

Travel = uncertainty.
Unstructured time = more rumination.
Being around people 24/7 = more triggers.

If you’re worried about symptoms increasing during travel, we can prepare for that. Give us a call or book your consultation at the link in our bio

Our bulletin board has become something really special.
Clients who’ve already been through ERP write notes to those who are just beginning — reminders that the fear passes, the discomfort is survivable, and they’re not alone.
It’s powerful for the person reading it… and just as meaningful for the one writing it.

Courtney Eve and I will be presenting tomorrow at the Tomball ISD Spring Collaborative for Teachers! It’s always a privilege to be back among such dedicated educators and to have the opportunity to continue spreading OCD awareness🩵

Teachers and school counselors are often the front line of mental health support for children and adolescents. Our presentation will focus on how to recognize OCD in students and what it can look like in the classroom setting.
