On Friday the 17th, we held our first OCD Awareness Breakfast ever! What a great turnout and we are so grateful for everyone who came! Who came you may ask? We had Therapists, Educators, Psychiatrists, Cardiologist, OBGYN, neighbors, Clincial Psychologists, members from our OCD Support Group, and families who have loved ones with OCD and many others!

Dr. McIngvale from OCD Institute of Texas shared a few words. We had several members from our OCD group share their journey with OCD. We witness unexpected sweet reunions between psychiatrists, psychologists and OCD families and individuals.

Why is OCD so misunderstood?
Because people often confuse quirks with a disorder.
✨ OCD = intrusive thoughts that feel threatening + compulsions to find relief.
✨ Quirks = personal preferences (like liking things tidy).

The difference matters. Understanding OCD reduces stigma and helps people access treatment sooner.

OCD isn’t a quirk—it’s a mental health condition. It’s not a personality trait, and it’s not a positive “perk.” While some people with OCD may appear very organized or clean, these behaviors are driven by underlying obsessional fears, not by a preference for order.

Reducing OCD to an adjective or mislabeling it as a “preference” can:
❌ Delay diagnosis
❌ Prevent someone from getting proper treatment
❌ Increase stigma and misunderstanding
That’s why education matters.
