“Why does everything feel harder than it should?”

You’re organized. You meet deadlines. You keep things moving.

But lately, simple tasks feel heavy, and motivation seems to disappear the second you have space to rest.

Amy works with high-achievers who are mentally overloaded but don’t feel like they’re “allowed” to slow down.

Therapy can help you uncover what lies beneath the surface and create space for more sustainable success.

It's Personal Touch Thursday here at NBC! This month, we are sharing experiences that reflect BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month and how that impacts our team outside of the clinical office.

This week, we are hearing from our founder, Dr. Alyssa Webb-McCune, who talks about how important it is to be aware of racial diversity in networking and business.

"Networking is key for any business, and as a white entrepreneur in the racial majority, it is easy to find myself in rooms with only other white individuals. While these rooms can still be valuable, they provide limited insight into life experiences, perspectives, and opinions. Part of recognizing privilege is recognizing when rooms are not diverse, and making moves to be in inclusive spaces. Especially in today's current social climate, it is more important than ever to be active in inclusivity and creating spaces that are proactively diverse."

Healing doesn’t mean you have to stay in the heavy all the time.

You’re allowed to laugh. You’re allowed to enjoy the moment. You’re allowed to feel happiness even if you’re still grieving, still figuring things out, and in the process of healing.

Claire reminds clients that moments of lightness don’t erase your pain. They give you room to breathe inside it.

In our new blog, our clinician Claire explores how trauma-informed care goes beyond individual healing to acknowledge collective, intergenerational trauma. From creating affirming spaces to empowering clients through choice and control, she breaks down the essential elements that help build trust with BIPOC clients.

Healing from racial trauma is complex, but with the right approach, therapy can become a space of genuine safety and growth. This work requires therapists to examine their own biases, stay culturally humble, and honor the resilience of their clients.

You deserve care that sees and respects your full experience.

When life has been about survival, slowing down can feel strange.

You might second-guess moments of ease, wondering if you’re doing enough or if something’s about to go wrong.

Amy helps high-achieving BIPOC professionals unpack the fear that comes with stillness.

Joy isn’t a distraction. It’s part of healing.

Therapy can help you stop bracing for the worst and start trusting the good when it shows up.

“Why do I feel disconnected from everyone around me?”

If you’ve asked yourself that lately, you’re not alone.

Grief doesn’t just show up after someone dies. It can appear when your life no longer aligns with what you had pictured for yourself.

Claire helps clients explore these quiet, internal shifts. The goal isn’t to “snap out of it.” It’s to make sense of what changed and find your way back to connection.

You don’t have to pretend you’re fine when everything feels off.

As we continue through BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month, we reflect on the importance of uplifting the unique mental health experiences of marginalized communities. This month is a reminder to recognize and honor those experiences, but the work does not stop here.

Our clinical director, Angel, shares,
“Mental health is deeply tied to culture and experience. When healing happens within a space that truly sees and respects your identity, it opens the door to authentic growth and hope. You deserve care that honors your whole self and your journey.”

Supporting BIPOC mental health is a daily commitment to justice and compassion.

At Natural Balance Counseling, we are committed to providing culturally informed and compassionate care throughout the year.

If you or someone you love is navigating mental health challenges, remember that seeking support is a brave and ongoing step. You are not alone.

Joy doesn’t always show up with fireworks.

Sometimes it looks like silence that doesn’t feel heavy.

An hour to yourself. A moment of laughter you didn’t see coming.

If you’ve been carrying grief, anxiety, or trauma for a long time, joy might feel unfamiliar or even a little uncomfortable.

Claire helps clients who are learning how to sit with lightness again after long seasons of heaviness.

You don’t have to wait until everything’s perfect to feel better than before.

Amy works with BIPOC professionals who are carrying the emotional weight of being “the first,” “the only,” or “the one everyone relies on.”

You're not alone if you’ve built your success by suppressing your voice or burning yourself out to stay safe.

Therapy can help you shift the narrative and show up differently.

In July, we recognize and celebrate BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month by focusing conversations about mental health in communities of color. All care, including mental healthcare, must reflect the diverse experiences, cultures, and histories of those it serves.

This week, our clinician Claire writes: " As a therapist, it's essential to recognize the unique mental health challenges faced by BIPOC communities. Systemic racism, cultural stigma, and limited access to care can create barriers to wellness, but highlighting and addressing these issues is one of the first steps toward healing.
There are some resources that specifically cater to the mental health needs of BIPOC individuals:

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Texas: Offers resources, support, and advocacy for people of color. www.namimtx.org

The Black Mental Health Alliance: Provides cultural competence training, and support groups, and connects individuals to culturally sensitive therapists. www.bmhalliance.org

The Black Mental Health Initiative (BMHI): Offers culturally relevant mental health resources, education, and counseling for the Black community in Houston. www.bmhi.org

Mental Health America of Greater Houston: Provides support, education, and advocacy for mental health services, with a focus on underserved communities. www.mhahouston.org

The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD: Offers a variety of mental health services with specialists who are culturally sensitive to BIPOC needs. www.theharriscenter.org

Houston Asian American Health Coalition (HAAHC): Focuses on the mental health and wellness of the Asian-American community, offering counseling and support. www.haahc.org

Latino Health Access: Provides culturally competent mental health services for the Latino community in Houston, including counseling and wellness programs. www.latinohealthaccess.org

Healing begins when we acknowledge and support each other in a culturally aware space. Let's continue to break down the stigma and uplift BIPOC voices in mental health. 💙
