The House’s passage of the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” marks a troubling moment for patients with blood disorders who rely on Medicaid.

ASH is deeply concerned about the consequences of this legislation, which includes new work reporting requirements and more frequent eligibility checks. These changes will disproportionately impact individuals with serious hematologic conditions like sickle cell disease and blood cancers.

According to the Congressional Budget Office, millions of people could lose coverage. For those with chronic and complex conditions, even short gaps in coverage can lead to delayed treatment, worsened outcomes, and higher long-term costs.
