In case you’re new here 👋🏼let me introduce myself…

I’m Karen — a mobile lactation consultant, RN, BSN & IBCLC 🤍 Offering in home, in office & virtual appointments.
And first and foremost, I’m a mom to three amazing boys. 💙💙💙

My journey into this work is deeply personal. I’ve walked the challenging road of tongue ties and airway issues with my own children—and truly believe God allowed our family to face these challenges so I could help other parents navigating the same struggles. ♥️

What sets me apart is that I don’t stop at surface-level fixes…

I dig deep into gut health and love geeking out on microbiome testing 🧬 to help babies & families navigate through “colic,” reflux, gas, eczema, rashes, and chronic fussiness—because feeding challenges are often symptoms, not the root cause.

I completed a year-long holistic lactation residency so I can offer families real, tangible solutions that actually work. I love my homeopathy, red light therapy & holistic remedies.

I work closely with the amazing pediatric dentist Dr. Kim Feuquay , providing full frenotomy support before, during, and after release to ensure optimal healing and outcomes.

I also collaborate with the brilliant Dr. Nicole Hoff in private practice Dr. Hoff Holistic Health & Wellness - who also happens to be a former IBCLC! Together we can investigate root causes of low milk supply through blood work—and she can support both baby and parents as a Holistic pediatrician and primary care provider. She truly listens & is unapologetically changing the way healthcare is done. 👏🏼👏🏼

If you’re looking for personalized, holistic, evidence-based, and judgment-free feeding support—you’ve found the right place 🤍

Can we talk about raw garlic? 🧄

Raw garlic has been used for centuries as natural medicine — and for good reason. When garlic is crushed, it releases allicin, a powerful compound that helps the body fight unwanted bacteria and calm inflammation.

Why people love raw garlic (but maybe not the taste 👅):
• Natural antimicrobial support
• Immune system booster
• Anti-inflammatory
• Supports gut and heart health

How I use raw garlic:
• Use a garlic press or finely chop 1–2 cloves
• Let sit 5–10 minutes (this activates the good stuff)
• If you’re brave — chew, chew, chew and get ready for your sinuses to open 🤯
• Add chopped garlic to a small shot of water and swallow if chewing isn’t your thing
• Try garlic fermented in honey (my favorite + kid-approved) — we get ours from at our local farmers market
• Garlic tinctures or capsules are options if raw isn’t tolerated

✨ Start slow — raw garlic is potent.

Did you also know raw garlic may help support a breastfeeding mother’s body as it heals from mastitis and breast inflammation? 🤱🏽 Ask me how…

Important reminder:
Garlic is a supportive tool — not a replacement for lactation support or medical care when needed. Mastitis is multifactorial and deserves a whole-body approach. 🧘🏽‍♀️

Hand Expression: a powerful (and underrated) breastfeeding skill 🤍One of my first things to teach breastfeeding mothers… just ask me 👌🏼👌🏼

This simple (yet powerful) skill can make a huge difference in your breastfeeding journey—especially in the early days.

Hand expression helps:
✨ stimulate more milk production
✨ move colostrum more effectively than a pump
✨ relieve engorgement and pressure
✨ protect your milk supply when baby isn’t latching or you’re separated
✨ support pumping by increasing overall output

Your hands are often the best tool you have. No cords, no parts to wash, quick & easy, especially if you just need to hand express a little milk to relieve some pressure.

Whether you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or pumping long-term—this is a skill every parent deserves to know.

Support, education, and confidence matter. You don’t have to figure this out alone 🤍

Ok milky mamas… here’s what you need to know in case of power outages 🫶🏼🫶🏼

Winter storm + power outage tips for pumping moms ❄️🤍
• Charge pumps & devices early
• Keep a manual pump as backup, also don’t forget your ability to hand express 👌🏼
• Stick to your pumping schedule as best you can
• Use warmth to help letdown
• Worst case—your pump can be plugged into your car 🚗

And of course if you are able to… just nurse your baby skin to skin 🤱🏽 This will not only keep baby warm but you as well. 🫶🏼

Prepared > panicked. You’ve got this, mama 💪🍼

⚡️ POWER OUTAGE + BREASTMILK?
Here’s what to do to keep baby and breastmilk safe.

Power went out and you have breastmilk in the fridge/freezer...I know that panic feeling so well, especially when your milk represents HOURS of work and a food source for your baby.

✅ FIRST: Keep fridge/freezer doors CLOSED as much as possible.

MILK IN THE FRIDGE

🧊 If fridge is ≥ 40°F / 4°C for 4+ hours: save for a milk bath.
✅ If still cold (≤ 40°F / 4°C): use within typical timeframe.

MILK IN THE FREEZER

❄️ If milk has ice crystals: SAFE TO REFREEZE
❄️ If milk is fully thawed but still cold: use within 24 hours (do not refreeze- some parent will opt to refreeze based on their own comfort).
🚫 If milk is warm or you’re unsure: save it for a milk bath.

✨ Pro Tip: Move freezer milk to a cooler with ice packs if outage lasts longer than expected.
✨ Pro tip: keep a cheap fridge thermometer inside your fridge/freezer, it makes decisions SO much easier during outages.

🌿Roots to Table 🌿

Baby Led Weaning and checking for signs of readiness are some of my absolute favorite appointments I offer!

So What Exactly Is Baby-Led Weaning (BLW)?? 🤍🥑

Baby-Led Weaning isn’t just about skipping purées—it’s about assessing the infant’s developmental readiness, oral motor skills, and teaching your child the mechanics of chewing!

Breastmilk or formula remains the primary source of nutrition in the first year and is still very important for appropriate growth and development!

✨ BLW supports:
• Continuity between breastfeeding and solid foods
• Jaw development and improves oral motor skills
• Sensory integration through touch, taste, and texture
• Fosters autonomy, confidence, and trust at the table

🍼 From an IBCLC standpoint:
Proper BLW works with feeding mechanics—not against it. Breastmilk continues to provide calories, immune protection, and fats for brain development, while solids are introduced as exploration, developing baby's palate, building their microbiome and teaching them the correct way to eat, chew and swallow.

Holistic BLW is NOT:
🚫 Pushing solids before readiness (Sitting up unassisted is the primary GOAL)
🚫 Replacing milk feeds
🚫 Forcing intake or “clean plates”
🚫 Ignoring gag reflex (which is protective, not dangerous)
🚫Offering processed foods, fast foods, artificial dyes and colors, junk food, etc.

🌿 Fl**ge Fit Matters More Than You Think!
As a private practice IBCLC, one of the most crucial things I teach for pumping moms is how deeply fl**ge sizing impacts your milk expression, comfort, and overall pumping experience — it’s truly transformational when the fit is right 👏🏼👏🏼

✨ Why fl**ge fit is everything:
• A proper fit protects your ni**le + ar**la from unnecessary friction & damage
• It supports healthy milk flow and reduces ni**le swelling & irritation
• It helps prevent clogged ducts, pain, and “elastic ni**le” issues
• And best of all… it can boost your milk output because your breast can better empty therefore stimulating more milk 🥛

🌀 Signs your fl**ge might NOT fit:
• Pinching, rubbing, or blanching
• Excessive ar**la being pulled into the tunnel 😵‍💫
• Ni***es turning white or increasing dramatically in size
• Pain (pumping should not hurt!)
• Low output despite consistent pumping & breasts still feel full

💗 What the right fit feels like:
• Gentle movement of only the ni**le — not stretching or pulling in your ar**la
• No pain, no ring marks
• A soft, effective milk flow that doesn’t feel forced

🌸 If you’re unsure about your fl**ge size, I’d love to help you find a fit that supports your comfort, your supply, and your healing postpartum journey. 🤍
