Letdown—also known as the milk ejection reflex—is how your body releases the flow of milk to your baby 🤍
It’s driven by oxytocin, aka “the love hormone”. It’s released when your baby latches, your ni***es are stimulated, or even when you see, smell, or think about your baby 🥰
Oxytocin causes the muscles around the milk-making glands to gently contract—moving milk through the ducts and toward your baby.
But it’s not just physical…
Your nervous system plays a huge role too…
Stress, pain, or feeling rushed can inhibit oxytocin, while warmth, relaxation, and feeling safe help milk flow more easily.
If letdown feels off, delayed, or difficult—we gently look at what your body & baby is needing 🤍
