Grant Nichols Construction Incorporated is a commercial, residential, and industrial contracting company providing services to public and private entities for the past 16 years. GNCI specializes in civil and site work, road building, underground utilities including storm drain, water, sewer force main, gravity sewer, clearing and grubbing, land shaping and grading, concrete flat work, foundations, and curb and gutter.
HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR POSITIONS
GNCI is currently seeking Heavy Equipment Operators to join our team to assist in the in the areas of site preparation, underground utility infrastructure, and associated concrete work to provide a finished site/project to customers.
A Heavy Equipment Operator’s primary responsibility is to complete assigned tasks safely and accurately using construction equipment such as bulldozers, front-end loaders, and excavators. Applicants should have at least 5 years’ professional experience operating equipment.
Heavy Equipment Operator Responsibilities Include:
• Loading and unloading equipment from vehicles used to transport it
• Inspecting equipment before and after use to ensure it is in good working order
• Driving or controlling heavy equipment to complete tasks at the construction site
• Monitoring performance and adjusting settings as required to perform tasks correctly
• Tracking scheduled maintenance of equipment and notifying their supervisor if maintenance is past due
• Filling out performance records to report problems with equipment and track origin of the issue
• Cleaning equipment after use and disposing of any collected scraps or waste
• Completing minor repair work as needed
• Operating bulldozer, front-end loader, excavator, backhoe/loader, dirt compactor, and sweeper in a safe manner to excavate and shape land to plan specifications.
• Use of non-motorized apparatus such as dump boxes and loader buckets
What will put you ahead:
• Experience with Intelligent Machine Controls technology
• Experience reading prints, layout, and shooting grades
• Experience in excavating for construction or water, sewer force main and gravity sewer
• Relevant training/operator certifications from prior experience
Heavy Equipment Operator Skills and Qualifications
• Knowledge of safety protocols and the procedures used to control heavy equipment
• Coordination to use all the controls on various pieces of equipment
• Possessing enough strength to operate the controls on heavy equipment
• Ability to remain stationary in the seat or operating area of the equipment for prolonged periods
• Problem-solving skills to diagnose issues with equipment
• Strong oral communication skills to interact with other workers on the jobsite
• Basic writing skills to accurately complete reports and other paperwork
• Good noncommercial driver’s license history to indicate a habit of safe driving
Additional Information
• Must be able to work within the assigned geographic region of South Alabama (primarily Mobile and Baldwin Counties).
• Shift schedule consists of day shift, Monday through Friday with occasional work on the weekends.
PIPE LAYER POSITIONS
GNCI is currently seeking Pipe Layers to join our team to assist in the in the areas of site preparation, underground utility infrastructure, and associated concrete work to provide a finished site/project to customers.
General Laborer Responsibilities Include:
•Constructing pipe systems for storm water drainage systems, force main sewer and sanitation systems, gravity sewer systems, drains, and water services and water mains.
• Aligning pipe sections according to plans, directs equipment operators to maneuver pipe into position, seals pipe joints using various methods.
• Using hand tools such as shovels, picks and rakes to prepare rock and soil.
• Unloads materials that are delivered and distributes them to appropriate location as identified by supervisor.
• Operates a wide variety of hand and power tools related to the installation of RCP, ductile iron and c900 piping.
What will put you ahead:
• Experience with pipe laying and installation of underground utilities.
• Experience in site preparation and utility work
• Ability to operate excavators, backhoes, and frontend loaders
Skills and Abilities
• Ability to listen to, understand, and follow directions.
• Ability to remain flexible as specific assignments change.
• Ability to work with a variety of personalities.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic as needed to count and take inventory.
Additional Information
• Must be able to work within the assigned geographic region of South Alabama (primarily Mobile and Baldwin Counties).
• Shift schedule consists of day shift, Monday through Friday with occasional work on the weekends.
• Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds and push and/or pull 50-pound loads at a time.
• Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to work in trenches and enclosed spaces
• Must be able to stand and walk up to eight hours per day and climb multiple sets of stairs while carrying materials weighing between 40 and 60 pounds.
