You got the surgery. The surgeon says it went well. Six months later you’re still hurting, still not back to training, still not feeling right.
The procedure may have fixed your ACL, cleaned out your knee or replaced your the whole joint. But, without quality rehab, you still haven’t addressed what caused the break down or the injury in the first place.
Rehab is where you actually get your life back. What must happen to get the outcome you want?
1. Restore range of motion at and around the site of surgery.
2. Build strength to perform basic daily task
3. Load your body with functional movements that make you stronger than before.
4. Return to your sport, activity, or active lifestyle when you’re strong enough to do it, NOT simply when you are “discharged or cleared” by your doctor.
Most people quit after step 2. That's why they're still not right six months later when they try all the things they used to do.
If you have a surgery scheduled or recently had an operation, come talk to me before you just show up to generic PT.
