International Women’s Day

Funeral service was once considered a man’s profession. Today, women proudly stand alongside men in caring for families and honoring lives.

As a third-generation funeral director and owner, I am honored to follow in the footsteps of my grandfather and my father. While they helped build the foundation of our family’s work, I am proud to continue that legacy and represent the evolving role of women in funeral service.

Compassion, strength, and dedication know no gender — they simply belong to those called to serve.

Louisiana Cremation Laws – What Families Need to Know

When a loved one passes away, cremation cannot take place without proper legal authorization. Many families are surprised to learn how this works.

Here’s what you should know in Louisiana:

🔹 Cremation requires authorization from the legal next of kin.

The order of priority is:
1. Spouse
2. Adult Children (a majority must agree)
3. Parents
4. Adult Siblings
5. Other legal heirs

🔹 Power of Attorney ends at death.
Even if someone held medical or financial power of attorney, that authority ceases immediately at the time of death. It does not give them the right to authorize cremation unless they are also the legal next of kin.

🔹 There is a way to designate someone in advance.
Louisiana allows individuals to complete an “Authorization of My Arrangements” form.
When properly signed and notarized, this document allows you to legally name a specific person to carry out your cremation wishes — regardless of next-of-kin order.

Planning ahead can prevent confusion, delays, and family disagreements during an already emotional time.
