Congratulations to our newest LPC, Shelby Ellis, on earning her license. For those that don’t know, this final step is the end of a long journey in training for counselors. After the bachelor’s degree and master’s degree, which includes a semester long internship, they are supervised for at least two more years before being fully licensed to practice on their own.

Shelby is originally from Thibodaux, and educated and trained in Steubenville, Ohio. She treats patients ages 13+ with a variety of concerns from mood disturbances to anxiety and OCD. Her passions are working with women experiencing perinatal struggles and victims of trauma. We wish Shelby a long, fulfilling, and successful career!

Interesting finding…

New Genetic Link to OCD Found

Cutting-edge DNA sequencing has uncovered a striking difference in genetic profiles between children with OCD and their healthy peers.

Researchers found that children with OCD were far more likely to carry rare, spontaneous mutations in their DNA known as copy number variants (CNVs).

These CNVs can delete or duplicate critical regions of DNA, affecting genes that influence brain function and behavior.

Notably, 75% of the variants identified in OCD patients were potentially damaging, while none were found in the control group.

The results challenge long-held assumptions that psychiatric conditions like OCD are primarily inherited.

They suggest that spontaneous genetic changes are a major contributor and may lead to more effective diagnostics and therapies.

The most brow-raising data in the 2024 National Veteran Affairs Su***de Prevention Annual Report just released was that women aged 40-65 treated in the VHA with menopause hormone replacement therapy had a reduction of 47.4% in su***de rates over the ten year study period from 2002 to 2022. A lot of useful information about veteran and non-veteran, male and female, mental health!
