Congratulations to Dr. Sarah Hamad, who has achieved board certification in lifestyle medicine.

Lifestyle medicine is a medical approach that uses healthy lifestyle habits to prevent, treat and sometimes reverse chronic conditions. Some examples of lifestyle medicine treatment options include: whole food plant-predominant nutrition, positive social connections, stress management and regular physical activity.

Dr. Hamad is also board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is a Blue Zones certified physician, which signifies expertise in applying longevity principles such as plan-forward diets, natural movement and stress reduction to clinical care.

The Sanford Thief River Falls Medical Center Infant Bereavement Program is pleased to sponsor the Little Lamb Memorial Tree. This beautiful Christmas tree will be located in the hospital lobby. Families who have experienced the loss of a baby through miscarriage or stillbirth are invited to have an ornament placed on the tree with their baby’s name and date of birth. For example, a full name and date of birth may be used or simply “Baby Jones 1997.” All are encouraged to have their baby recognized with an ornament whether the loss was recent or many years ago. There is no charge for the ornaments. Families are encouraged to have an ornament placed on the tree every year in memory of their baby.

The tree is provided and decorated by the Sanford Thief River Falls Auxiliary. Those wishing to donate to the Infant Bereavement Program may do so through the Sanford Auxiliary. To have an ornament placed on the tree call the hospital office at 218-681-4240. The Little Lamb Memorial Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place on December 7, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sanford hospital lobby (ER entrance). The ceremony will include a memorial service. Everyone is welcome to attend this special event.

Sanford Clinic Thief River Falls is now offering lactation consultant services at no cost.

Hailey Thornton, LPN, IBCLC is a Licensed Practical Nurse and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant providing expert breastfeeding care, education, and support from the beginning of pregnancy through weaning.

What do lactation consultants do?
*Offer prenatal counseling and ongoing support.
*Educate and help with breastfeeding techniques including positioning and latch.
*Provide guidance and education on pumping and building milk supply.
*Help mothers prevent and manage breastfeeding issues.

Over 2,200 students explored careers at the Northern Valley Career event at the Alerus Center.

Sanford Health employees from Grand Forks, East Grand Forks, Fargo, and Thief River Falls joined more than 60 local employers to share hands-on activities and insights into in-demand health care roles. From radiology, lab, occupational therapy, physical therapy, sports training, behavioral health and nursing, students got a firsthand look at the future of care.
