🚨 Emergency Shelter Availability – Thursday, October 30 🚨

If a need arises due to power outages or flooding, the Thomaston Emergency Shelter will be available from 12:00 PM to midnight on Thursday, October 30.

Anyone in need of shelter should contact the Thomaston Police Department at (860) 283-4343 to be connected with shelter personnel.

Please stay safe, check on neighbors who may need assistance, and follow local updates for any changes.

Today’s a good day to pause and say thank you — not just to our own amazing Thomaston Volunteer Ambulance Corps crew of EMS professionals, but to our neighbors in the Thomaston Police Department and Thomaston Fire Department too.

Every siren, every radio call, every middle-of-the-night run — we show up together. Different uniforms, same mission: to help the people of Thomaston when they need it most.

Thomaston Volunteer Ambulance Corps Reports Rising Call Volume, Thanks Community for Ongoing Support

The Thomaston Volunteer Ambulance Corps (TVAC) has released its call statistics for the 2nd and 3rd quarters of 2024 and 2025, showing continued growth in emergency response activity.

📊 Call Volume Summary:
• 2024: April–June – 292 calls | July–September – 327 calls
• 2025: April–June – 323 calls | July–September – 347 calls

The increase reflects the community’s trust in local EMS services and the Corps’ commitment to rapid, professional care.

The Corps continues to operate 24/7, staffed entirely by dedicated volunteers serving the Town of Thomaston and surrounding areas.

We are proud to introduce our brand new 2025 Ford E-450 TYPE III Ambulance to the Thomaston community!

This state-of-the-art vehicle was carefully chosen to better serve our town and features:

✔️ More internal storage compartments
✔️ Updated safety restraints for crew members

🌡️ Heat Wave Alert — Monday Through Wednesday Night

Connecticut is Facing Its Third Heat Wave of the Season

Thomaston Volunteer Ambulance Corps

High temps and high humidity are on the way. These conditions can be dangerous, especially for seniors, young children, and people with certain health conditions.

🏢 Cooling Center Will Be Open on an as needed basis

Thomaston, CT: Call 860-283-4343 for local cooling center details and to be connected with shelter personnel

Need another location? Dial 2-1-1 or visit 211ct.org — they can also connect you to transportation if needed.

✅ Do:

💧 Drink water often: don’t wait until you’re thirsty.

🌳 Stay in shade or A/C whenever possible.

👵 Check on elderly neighbors & relatives.

👕 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.

🌀 Use fans or air conditioning to cool down.

🕙 Avoid strenuous activity between 10 AM – 4 PM.

❌ Don’t:

☀ Stay outside for long periods without sun protection.

🚗 Leave children or pets in vehicles: even for a minute!

🍺 Rely on alcohol or caffeinated drinks: they dehydrate you.

🛑 Ignore symptoms like dizziness or weakness stop, rest, and cool down.

🚑 In an Emergency: Call 911

Monday through Wednesday evening-Upcoming Heat Wave in Connecticut: Stay Safe and Cool

From all of us at Thomaston Volunteer Ambulance Corps, we want to remind everyone that we are about to experience the second heat wave of the season! With high temperatures on the way, it’s important to take extra precautions, especially for the elderly and individuals with certain medical conditions.

Governor Lamont has activated cooling centers across the state to help those in need of relief from the intense heat. If you’re looking for a cool place to stay, don’t hesitate to reach out for assistance.

Do's and Don'ts for Dealing with the Heat Wave:

✅ Do:

Drink plenty of water, even if you don’t feel thirsty

Stay in the shade or air-conditioned spaces as much as possible

Check on elderly neighbors and family members

Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing Use fans or air conditioning to stay cool

Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest parts of the day (usually 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.)

❌ Don't:

Stay outside for long periods without protection from the sun

Leave pets or children in hot cars

We are saddened by the passing of Plymouth Ambulance Chief Jim Dubowsky. PVAC is in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. His legend will live on forever 🚑 ❤️ 🚑

Chief Jim Dubowsky departed this earth today at 14:35 hours.

He passed peacefully at St Mary's hospital, surrounded by his family.

Details regarding services will be available in a few days time.

EMS-1: you are officially out of service and off duty for the final time.

Godspeed, and rest easy. We will take it from here.
