🚑 ❄️ Severe Cold Weather Alert ❄️ 🚑

Good evening Thomaston.

Weather forecasts indicate a brief shot of arctic air moving through our area Thursday night into Friday morning. Low temperatures Thursday night are expected to fall into the low to mid-teens, with wind chills ranging from 0° to +10°F. Northwest winds may gust up to 25 mph at times.

As a result, Connecticut’s Severe Cold Weather Protocol will be activated from 5:00 PM on Thursday, January 15, through noon on Friday, January 16.

Please take precautions, check on neighbors, and stay warm and safe. As always, Thomaston Volunteer Ambulance Corps is here for our community 24/7/365.

Connecticut has activated the Severe Cold Weather Protocol due to dangerously cold temperatures.

🕕 Effective:

6:00 PM Monday, December 29, 2025 through noon Sunday, January 4, 2026

⚠️ Wind chills are expected to drop into the single digits and near zero at times, creating life-threatening conditions for anyone exposed to the cold.

In 2025, Thomaston Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to 1,346 calls for help — 24/7/365.

From falls and medical emergencies to behavioral health calls and motor vehicle crashes, our volunteers were there when our community needed us most.

❄️ Severe Cold Weather Advisory ❄️

The forecast is calling for another blast of dangerously cold weather beginning Thursday evening and continuing through Sunday morning.

Based on the forecast, Thomaston is activating the Severe Cold Weather Protocol from 5:00 PM Thursday (12/25) through 10:00 AM Sunday (12/28).

Overnight temperatures are expected to drop into the teens, with north winds of 5–10 mph and gusts up to 20 mph, creating wind chills in the single digits and near zero at times. Wind chills Friday and Saturday nights are also expected to fall below 10 degrees in parts of the state.

If warming needs arise, shelter will be available.

A Severe Cold Weather Protocol is in effect Sunday 12/14 at noon through Monday 12/15 at noon.
Dangerous arctic air and windchills at or below zero are expected overnight.

If you need a warming center, call Thomaston Police Department at (860) 283-4343 to be connected with Ambulance Shelter Personnel. Shelter will be opened on an as needed basis.

Please check on neighbors and vulnerable residents. Do not leave our furry family outdoors for any extended period of time.
