Well we caved to curiosity today and tried a recipe for chocolate cake with a VERY unexpected, secret ingredient. Fortunately, despite our apprehension, it turned out delicious and there were nothing but crumbs left! What do you think the secret ingredient is??

"The smell reminds me of my childhood." That's what one of our residents said today as we were making our Creamsicle Pie. That's exactly why we call our cooking program "Stirring Up Memories." Today we were excited to start a new monthly program, "Baking a Difference" where we will use our love for baking to help support those less fortunate in our community. Today we baked and delivered almost 100 cookies to The Father's Storehouse Ministries. They do so much to support our community. Check them out and see how you can support them!

We've been incorporating a little meditation into our Wellness Wednesdays and the past few weeks have done done prayer meditations. It's been a great way to quite our minds and calm our bodies and today was our biggest group yet and just what we needed!

One thing's for sure around here...we're not going to go hungry! We kicked off our morning "Stirring Up Memories." Assisted Living residents made zucchini muffins with zucchini straight from our garden while Cottage residents whipped up a banana cream pie! Then a group of residents took a trip to BBQ Joe's for a delicious lunch!

It's a good thing we had our Morning Yoga class to get loosened up for Rockin' with Ronnie because we were dancing, clap...

"Stirring Up Memories" isn't just a catchy name for our cooking group. It's truly what happens when our residents, even those with advance dementia, get to do a normal everyday task that was so important to them throughout their lives. Memories as far back as cooking with their mom and grandma come back. They instinctively grab the bowl with one hand and know how to work a mixer. It's an incredible thing to see and a sweet reminder of what's still possible when living with dementia. Also, this Pig Pickin' Cake may be our new favorite!

Our Cottage residents were still feeling patriotic after the 4th so they whipped up some red, white and blue Berry Fluff...
