If you’re preparing for surgery, you may be focused on the procedure itself—when it will happen, how long recovery will take, and when you’ll feel like yourself again.

But before any surgery moves forward, there’s one critical factor your healthcare team pays close attention to: your heart health.

Read our final Heart Month blog post to learn why pre-operative heart screenings are an important part of ensuring surgery is as safe and successful as possible.

February is Heart Month, and we’re recognizing the hardworking teams in Archbold Memorial’s Heart and Vascular Center.

Archbold’s Loudermilk Heart and Vascular Center is designated as a Level II Emergency Cardiac Care Center (ECC) by the Georgia Department of Public Health, meaning we have the physicians, teams, and equipment available to help our neighbors when they experience a cardiac event.

Archbold’s CVC team carries out crucial diagnostic testing on cardiovascular patients. These test results ensure patients receive the best care and ensure providers are working with the most accurate information. Among the important tests they complete are echocardiograms, vascular ultrasounds, transesophageal echocardiograms, lower extremity arterial evaluations, and electrocardiograms. They also handle Event Monitor placement to record heart activity in the hospital and after discharge.

Joe Willis was hired at Grady General Hospital in March 1962. For 64 years, he served patients at the Cairo hospital. At the time of his retirement on February 20, he was the longest-tenured team member across the entire Archbold system.

“Mr. Willis is not only the longest-serving member of our team here, but he truly is one of the most dedicated,” shared Archbold Grady Administrator Crystal Wells. “We are grateful for his dedicated service to this hospital and our community. On behalf of our entire staff, we wish him the best in his retirement.”

Friends, family, and co-workers gathered on Friday at Archbold Grady to celebrate Willis. He was presented with a new recliner to mark the occasion.

“I would like to thank each and every one at Grady General for all the support and, most of all, for giving me a chance to join the family,” Willis shared. When asked for his advice to the next generation of Archbold Grady team members, his guidance was simple: “Obey the rules and do your work with pride.”

Archbold thanks Joe Willis for a lifetime of service to our organization and the people of Grady County. To read to full article, visit www.archbold.org/news .

As the only Emergency Cardiac Care Center in our immediate area, this region counts on the 24-hour emergency cardiac care that this team provides. The team also handles cardiovascular imaging and interventions and cardiac device implantation procedures.
