What causes hives? Hives are very common and can be caused by many different things. Sometimes hives can be triggered by an allergic reaction to foods, medicines, animals, insect bites or pollen. Other times hives can be a result of stress, infections, illnesses, and or exposure to the sun.

Follow these dermatologist recommended steps to treat minor cuts and avoid infection.

1. Wash your hands.
2. Wash the cut.
3. Stop the bleeding by applying pressure to the wound.
4. Apply petroleum jelly.
5. Cover the cut with a sterile bandage.
6. Take over-the-counter pain reliever, if needed.
