An important step in preparedness is communications. With the recent severe weather throughout New England, it's important to have multiple means of receiving information to stay informed when an emergency arises. Keep in mind, having a secondary means of Telecommunications with family, friends or neighbors is important if the power goes out. Cell phones, CB radio, and Ham/GMRS radios are all reliable as as a backup means of communication.

Poor air quality conditions due to the Canadian wildfire smoke passing through our region for the next few days. Please limit your time outdoors if you have any respiratory issues.

NHDES is expecting concentrations of fine particle air pollution to reach unhealthy levels for sensitive individuals in statewide on Monday, August 4. NHDES officials advise sensitive individuals to take precautions to protect their health by limiting prolonged outdoor exertion.

Sensitive individuals include:
✅Children and older adults.
✅Anyone with lung disease such as asthma, emphysema or bronchitis.
✅People who are active outdoors.

Even healthy individuals may experience mild health effects and should consider limiting strenuous or prolonged outdoor activities.

The particle air pollution event is the result of extensive wildfires in central and western Canada bringing waves of smoke to much of the Northeast and New Hampshire. There is potential for high particle pollution to persist over the next couple of days.
