People with borderline personality disorder are often treated as if they have a personality flaw, rather than mental health issues stemming from trauma. It's time we changed its name.

Please try to use less stigmatizing language when working in substance use disorder treatment. It helps 🌹
https://www.changingthenarrative.news/stigmatizing-language

Trying to move away from criminalization while simultaneously using words like "substance abuse" that further criminalize people runs at cross purposes to the goal of humanizing people who use drugs. In health care settings and in policymaking, it is critical to avoid stigmatizing language that is...

This article does a great job describing toxic shame. However, it falls short of describing how to heal from it. People can heal by acknowledging the pain, acknowledging the source and taking baby steps in self love. They didn't deserve it. They certainly shouldn't continue suffering from it.

Toxic shame is one of the most common debilitating feelings that people struggle with. Toxic shame is a term that refers to a chronic feeling or emotional state of feeling bad, worthless, inferior, and fundamentally flawed. It is called toxic because...

We need to act now.

Bottom line: LPCCs and LPCs in Colorado must move on this.

The Mental Health Access Act Improvement was introduced to both the Senate (S. 286) and the House (H.R. 945) on January 31st, 2019. If passed, this measure would cover LPCs as Medicare providers. Currently, licensed professional counselors are not covered by Medicare. This creates significant challenges for many seeking access to mental health services, particularly those over the age of 65.

Counselors should make their voice heard.

Please take a few minutes to consider acting. The American Counseling Association (ACA) has put together much of what you need to contact your elected officials. ACA has made this a very easy process.

How could early onset drinking affect young people's brain??

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2019/02/190206144521.htm

Lasting changes in the brain caused by drinking that starts in adolescence are the result of epigenetic changes that alter the expression of a protein crucial for the formation and maintenance of neural connections in the amygdala -- the part of the brain involved in emotion, fear and anxiety.
