1 year ago today, the City of Thousand Oaks - Local Government awarded us with a Business Recognition Award for our work providing nutritional counseling in the community. The award proudly hangs in the lobby of our Thousand Oaks office. Over the past year, we've continued to expand our team, open additional office locations, and serve more clients while offering both in-office and Telehealth appointments.

🍓Welcome Sara, our newest RDN, to the NWK team! We are so excited to have you on our team 💕

🍓 I'm originally from: Studio City, California

🍓I went to college at: California State University, Northridge (CSUN) for my bachelor’s degree and University of Southern California (USC) for my master’s degree

🍓I wanted to become an RD because: It was my own personal history with food and my body that inspired me to learn more about nutrition and led me to discovering intuitive eating. Through my own experience, I realized that I wanted to help others heal their relationship with food and their bodies by breaking up with diet culture, discovering mindful movement, and understanding the science of how our bodies use the food we eat for nourishment.

🍓Favorite food: Depends on my mood! But if I had to choose, probably sushi... or pasta! Ok -- I couldn't choose

🍓Favorite TV show: Friends

🍓I am anti-diet because: Diets don't work! You become the happiest, healthiest version of yourself when you let go of every food rule you've ever been taught and instead learn to trust your body.

🍓Favorite thing about being an RD: Helping clients get back to their body's intuition by listening to and honoring their cues and preferences to make peace with food and finally ENJOY it again

🍓When I'm not dietitian-ing, you'll find me: cooking or trying new restaurants, at the beach, hiking with friends and family, shopping for plants, listening to music while decorating/re-organizing my space, or cuddling with my pomeranian

🍓Do you find yourself constantly thinking about food even though you just finished your meal? Or perhaps do you find yourself thinking about your meals for the next day?

🍓These recurring thoughts occur when you’re simply not eating enough!

🍓Your brain is letting you know that you are depriving yourself of proper nutrition by not receiving the nutrients and energy your body needs!

🍓Additionally, these food thoughts can reoccur if you are only choosing safe foods that are not nutrient-dense or satisfying!

🍓Phrases such as “I really shouldn’t be eating this” keep us stuck in the diet mentality which can result in mentally depriving yourself.

🍓Thankfully, food freedom allows us to step away from this mindset and be one step closer to eating intuitively!
