On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger led thousands of Federal troops to Galveston to announce that both the Civil War and slavery had ended. Today and every day, Belmont Village celebrates the freedom of enslaved Americans and is committed to the work ahead to achieve true equality for all. More than 200 residents from our Bay Area and Los Angeles communities came together for a day of friendly competition! The day began with a lively opening ceremony, and then residents battled for the gold in seated volleyball, relays, brain gymnastics, cornhole and other games that challenged our minds and bodies. A great time was had by all!
Our residents and staff have been getting into the Olympic spirit with a month full of fun, athletic themed activities! So far, we have made medals, torches, and themed dรฉcor and have learned about the history of the Olympic Games. Our daily exercise routines have turned into training for our communities' Olympic events as we join more than 200 residents and our sister communities in LA and the Bay Area for a day of Olympic games!
