In the relaxed and peaceful environment of our healing arts center we provide hands-on therapies and movement practices to assist your healing and relaxation process. Therapies including chiropractic, acupuncture, microcurrent and various massage styles, are all tailored and administered to your specific needs, whether recovering from injury, dealing with pain or de-stressing after a challenging d

ay. Our therapeutic philosophy blends classical and modern disciplines of Eastern and Western origins tailored to the underlying issues of each individual. Your needs are optimally addressed through the experience of each practitioner in concert with the resources of the group. Whether you are dealing with a new injury, chronic pain or you require a new way to manage the many demands of life, our objective is to build long-term relationships based on your wellness goals. Since our inception in 1993, it has been our vision to create a healing arts center that is the catalyst for generating a better quality of life for our clients through education, movement and various therapeutic disciplines in order to produce deep healing, greater awareness and knowledge of the body. We intend the Bodysattva Healing Arts Center to be a place where you can slow down enough to listen to your body, acquire self-awareness techniques and experience healing modalities to bring about a deep level of relaxation, balanced body-mind integration and healing. The term ‘Bodysattva’ was born out of this vision and, translated loosely
from Sanskrit, pairs ‘body’ (bod-ee) with ‘sattva’ (sahtvah) or ‘awareness.’

“Sattva is a state of mind in which the mind is steady, calm and peaceful. Sattva may be defined as pure existence, awareness, being, truth, intelligence, virtue, goodness, joy, the middle path, balance”

Or simply put, the desire to practice and deepen the connection to and access our closest resource, our own body’s wisdom.

What would you do if you weren’t afraid?

Because when you learn to put faith before fear, the most extraordinary and divine things will happen.

It takes enormous courage, a word that comes from the Latin word for heart.

Where can you fear less and lean into faith more?

Because that is where the magic happens.

MY LIFE AS A TEACHER 📖

Humbly, after a lifetime of teaching, I’ve come to see that you can’t change anyone. So, what am I doing in the many circles I convene all over the world? Well, I’ve come to see that being a teacher means serving as a greenhouse: providing light and warmth to the living things before us so they can grow in the various ways they are meant to grow.

If I am invested in changing you, that assumes I know what you should be changed into. This is presumptuous and dangerous. In the realm of transferring knowledge, there are definite and precise things to learn and skill sets to master. But in the deeper realm of knowing, there is no such arrival point. There is only the constant becoming of our soul on Earth, which no one can prescribe or schedule.

As a tree grows from the imprint of its seed, each life grows in the world from the imprint of its soul. We can only water the seed for each other and care for each other’s growth. In this regard, our being directs our doing. So, I encourage you to water the roots of your being so it can grow its gestures into the world.

In a modern age that commodifies everything, our challenge is to grow from the
inside out, letting every holy calling find its own expression within us and between us. After decades of listening to the stories and struggles of others, I can bear witness that teaching, in its most profound form, is not moving a life from here to there, or from effort to achievement, or even from chaos to order. Rather, teaching is creating the enduring environment in which the seed of the soul can know itself and blossom.

With all this in mind, I invite you to consider the vantage point from which you relate to your students, no matter the size or shape of your classroom: What are you looking for when you look into your students? What are you listening for when you listen to your students? What are you hoping to grow in the garden of their minds? How will you prepare the soil? How do you know when you should not turn one thing into another? How do you know when you should turn one thing into another? How can you best help each of your students by meeting them where they are?

11/28/2023

During this season, there is much shopping, money spending, dining, and spending quality time with people close to you. We naturally reflect on how fortunate we are to have the ability to do all these things, and feel generous and grateful in doing them. To buy presents big or small, to buy food, to host parties. It’s so easy to take for granted privileges we’ve always had access to, like clean water, clean clothes, access to food.

Through being on the Board of Plant Fruit, I’ve learned so much about the Kisoro Hill Batwa, and one such necessity they don’t have: access to water and education. When we began teaching good hygiene, we thought most of the information would be ignored. During our recent visit of our founder to Uganda we were super excited to see and hear our students insisting that children wash their hands before eating. We’ve been able teach them how to make soap, the importance of hygiene and washing hands before eating. The two main reasons 40% of children of this poverty-stricken tribe don’t live to 5 years old are because of disease and malnutrition. Something so simple as soap and clean water is a game changer for this community. They want so much to learn a better way of life. The students, both men and women, of Plant Fruit’s School of Practical Arts are not only learning, for the first time in their history, marketable trades, but they are also learning what we would consider basic human necessities and functions like hand washing and hygiene.

Breathe 🌬
If you’ve ever been on my table, undoubtedly at some point (or frequently) I’ve either told you to breathe or taught you how to breathe. Breath is a direct link to your nervous system. So if you want to relax, de-stress, increase energy, feel less tension, consider focusing your awareness on your breath and explore these practices. You don’t have to practice yoga in a studio to reap the benefits of 4000 years of history. Mindful breathing, is bringing your full attention to the awareness THAT you are breathing. Very different than knowing you are breathing because you are alive. This sustained awareness of the breath can have a profound impact on well-being. Sounds simple, and it is, but it’s not necessarily “easy”. So, take a few moments to breathe with me and see if you don’t feel an uptick in serenity and tranquility, calm and centeredness. I’ll share more in the months to come.
Uneven Breath (visama vritti)
Before we progress to an even breath, we’ll start simply with an uneven breath or visama vritti. With this technique we are seeking an even inhale and exhale breath rhythm with shorter hold time. I’ll suggest a count of 4 or 5 but you always want to find the rhythm that brings about ease and does not produce agitation. If you find yourself agitated, stop, and come back to your natural breath and then begin the practice again.
To start, sit or lie comfortably and notice your natural breath. It might be helpful to put your hands on your chest and belly. Allow your belly to rise with the inhale and lower with the exhale. See if you can allow the breath to be low in the body and let the chest be soft and still.
Exhale fully then begin your inhale low in the belly and count (perhaps at the rhythm of your heartbeat) as you inhale for a count of 4 or 5. Find a pause for 1 to 2 beats, then exhale slowly for 4 or 5 and pause at the end of the exhale for 1 to 2 beats. Repeat for 5 minutes or longer. You can lengthen or shorten the count as necessary but try to keep the inhalation and exhalation length as even as possible.

Where there's a will, there's a way!!
We make excuses all the time to not do the things that would benefit. But when you realize how fragile we can be and how fleeting time, if you want ir, you show up and be present for what happens.
Post multiple foot fractures. Post surgery. Robin is back and inspires me to no end. No wonder she is healing quickly, but not fast enough for her!! ✨️❤️✨️

Have you heard of the PHIT Act?
The PHIT Act allows individuals to use funds from pre-tax accounts, including flexible spending accounts (FSA) and health savings accounts (HSA), to pay for physical activity expenses, such as studio memberships, fitness equipment, and youth sports fees.
Yes: that means you can finally use your HSA or FSA to pay for your membership or privates AND pay for your kid’s little league fees.
Tell Congress that exercise, sports, and fitness programs should be eligible for HSA/FSA coverage by passing the PHIT Act. By increasing physical activity, we will help lower healthcare costs, improve mental health, and increase the health of the nation.
Super easy one-click to your congress people here:

Embrace the Energy of the Summer Solstice: Cultivating Mindfulness and Observance 🌻

As the sun reaches its zenith and we enjoy the long light of day where the sun appears to stand still, it's an opportune time to connect with nature and take our attention to mindfulness. The energy of this day is there for us to draw from and store for the months ahead. The long, slow day invites us to slow down, be present, and observe with all our senses. Take a mindful stroll in nature, feel the warmth of the sun on your skin, and savor the vibrant colors and smells of blooming flowers, listen to the gentle whispers of the wind and the way the light plays off the leaves. Renew your appreciation for the beauty of life. ☀️🌿 Let the summer solstice be a reminder to slow down, be present, be curious, and appreciate all that surrounds us. ☀️💚

Find your happy place..
Our intrepid crew at the end of our photo shoot, exemplifying so beautifully each to their own resting pose/corpse pose/savasana.
Yoga is not a competition and there is no prize for the most flexible or attaining the craziest pose, but it can be a window into seeing yourself, your habits and patterns, thoughts and beliefs and begin to rewire those neural pathways, choose different thoughts and begin to create a new Self. And.. it can be a great tool to stretch and strengthen your body.

Come as you are, wear what you want, do what you can, breathe, tune into yourself, listen, feel, take mindful action.
